!!! Do YOU want to cry on the bus? Do you love stories with magic, evil, goodness, and swamp monsters? Do you need a silly baby dragon in your life? Then pick this one up!
5⭐️! I loved this story about Malú and her quest to be punk. Joe was a great character (and I ADORE Mrs. Hidalgo), and the way that Perez gives each character a complete "self" -- no one feels flat. (I admit to being puzzled / frustrated by the slowness of the audiobook narrator's speaking voice for Malú, but it was nothing a little speeding up couldn't fix)
I sincerely doubt that's what it means here, word wise.
Whenever I think of Gregor and the princess, I think it is Gregor and Samsa. Uh, no, me. Her name is Luxa. This IS a story with huge bugs, but Gregor ISN'T one 😹
Even w/out audio probs, this wasn't a pick. The author takes weird tangents, i.e., an excruciating passage about how a teacher who died mid year was a failure. Had nothing to do with book's thesis, so that part felt especially cruel. Additionally, almost every woman was objectified in their introductions to us. Finally, author was very condescending, so the above sentence in the afterword is clearly not his actual belief. Bummer.
IT JUMPED AGAIN. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤
UGH. I'm struggling with this one because the author's tone is really condescending. On top of that, the audiobook has some weird pronunciation situations as well as a narrator who never changes his voice when he reads what people said, so you never know who's talking. On top of THAT, I was SO CONFUSED by a chapter only to just now find out that either Overdrive or the production team made the book jump from p 149 to 178, then back to 149 😡😡😡😡
Just over halfway through. I'm a little disturbed by the tone as well as by the criteria that appears to make up a "good" book. I'm still interested and will keep going for sure, but I am a bit troubled.
LIT UP💡📚 is letting me know that I have slacked off in reading the classics. (I have not read this one yet, for instance! But Denby just said how it ended, so I'm not rushing to fix my error) 😹
This book was a solid 3 stars. I didn't feel particularly compelled to keep going, but I didn't dislike it. I might have DNF'd if this were print, but I love Jorjeana Marie and stuck with this one for her narration. Overall, this is one that I'm not sure why I picked it up, so it's more my fault than the book's fault that I didn't click with it.
5 mummified stars!!! This is a super sweet story that made this cat lady cry!
Started this one this morning
5 🌟✨!! So creepy, so funny, so good. Mirrors and doubles feature brilliantly in this one. Elizabeth and Zenobia are hilariously different. The mystery is creepy, and I couldn't put this down. Highly recommend!!
5 🌟. This book handles a very serious and real topic AND has one of the funniest families I've encountered in fiction (almost any time Starr is having an extended conversation with her family, something funny comes up). Also, Bahni Turpin is an AMAZING narrator!
Such a sweet read! It tackles a tough topic, but I loved this story about Sunny, her grandpa, and secrets.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 content warning: rape. This book was unputdownable. Jorjeana Marie was a fantastic narrator for this audiobook, and I loved the friendship between Hermione and Polly.
That moment when 3 of your most anxiously anticipated holds come available in one week. 🎉👍🏻😻🙀😿 Gonna need to speed listen!!!
A really fun read! Sometimes I did want to shake Grace and/or Sam and be like "COME ON, KIDS! THINK SOME STUFF THROUGH!" But I also just really enjoyed this one. Absolutely worth a read or a listen!
Good morning, Littens! Let's see what these lupine nerds say today to make my eyes spin out of my head #thisbookissocute #andalsooccasionallyexcruciating
You know you're old when you hurt yourself rolling your eyes at some of the stuff these kids are saying. COME ON, GRACE! 👀🐺
Aw man. I know I just posted that I was still going strong earlier this week, but I've listened to it every day since then and am ONLY on chapter 18. I wish overdrive would tell me the total # of hours I've listened and how many are left, because knowing that the book is long is apparently not enough information for me!!! 😹 I might pick this one up again later, but I don't think I'll buy it to keep going.
If you enjoy the first of this duology, you've got to pick this one up. The drama is more intense, and the book moves at a breakneck pace. (I read this one in print to avoid the accent issue.) Warning: drugs, eating disorders, and harassment feature in this book, too.
Read this one a few months back. If you want backstabbing ballerinas, high-stakes drama, and lots of tension, pick this one up! HOWEVER: not one of the narrators could do a good Russian accent in the audiobook, so any time a teacher spoke it was excruciating. Overall, however, this is a gripping read. Warning: drug abuse, eating disorders, and harassment feature prominently.
HOLD ON. I read this book like 2 months ago--I can't believe I didn't review it! Great suspense, loved the flashes forward in time with the emails and news stories between chapters. Imogen Church was a fantastic narrator as always.
Tacos, dragons, time travel, and more. If you loved prepping a boatload of tacos for the first dragons-and-tacos party, you'll love this zany sequel.
I also picked up this bad boy at #booksmith today 😻😎🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🐉🐉🐉
Happy Bookstore day! Celebrated by visiting my favorite bookstore and snagging some great books, art, and pins! #booksmith
Still going strong!! There are a lot of plates in the air in this one, and they're keeping the suspense going nicely. And I love this narrator!
Realized that if I'm gonna join a book club, I should maybe read the book?! Enjoying this so far!
WHAT. I could not put this down. I started it Friday and just had to keep going. Creepy and unsettling.
5 stars. This book was amazing. Historical fiction, friendship, and goofy parent humor. This book has it all. Highly recommend! ☁️🐋
Really cool concept of seeing other people's "infinities."
If you are looking for your next nonfiction read to do with friends, grab this one. I listened on audio, and I really hope some of my circle read this so that we can unpack it. Crispin says some things that had me nodding, some that had me frowning, and some that had me ? (she specifically calls out "feminists" who wear $30 blush...but I've had mine for 7 years and has lasted through 4 years of daily use!!! #awkward)
Loved this one! I was totally absorbed in the book (Imogene Church's narration is amazing), and I kept finding reasons to put in my earbuds and listen.
Is the scene with the board (night 2 of the hen) really scary? Do they even use it, or do they get interrupted? I hit pause when it was introduced because I am easily creeped out, but the book was so good that I wanted to check in and see if you guys think it would be doable to keep going?
I got this far and then a plot element was introduced that made me hit pause REAL QUICK because it's one of those things that creeps me out...but if it's not a major part of the story I can keep going?? Not sure yet!
