Injection, Volume 1
Injection, Volume 1 | Warren Ellis
Once upon a time, there were five crazy people, and they poisoned the 21st Century. Now they have to deal with the corrosion to try and save us all from a world becoming too weird to support human life. Injection is the new series of graphic novels created by the acclaimed creative team of "Moon Knight: From The Dead," about how loud and strange the world is getting, about the wild future and the haunted past all crashing into the present day at once, and about five eccentric geniuses dealing with the paranormal and numinous as well as the growing weight of what they did to the planet with the Injection. Beginning with Maria Kilbride, the troubled troubleshooter for the research wing of mysterious multinational FPI, dragged from hospital to investigate a case of a possessed laboratory and a disappearance that, impossibly, has the hallmarks of ancient folklore.

By the end of this first volume I‘m still not entirely sure what‘s going on, but I‘m definitely intrigued. This series is a mashup of genres: sci-fi, folklore, horror, thriller, supernatural… and it‘s absolutely working for me. Add in some smarty pants characters tinged with darkness, and yeah - I‘m all in. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series and seeing what comes if it all.

Eyelit @vivastory first volume down, two to go and, I‘m liking it so far. 3y
Eyelit @vivastory update: finished the other two volumes. Still good, and more linear than the first, so the development of story and characters is better… but volume 3 ends on a bit of a cliffhanger and from what I can understand from the net the series is on indefinite hiatus… so heads up on that business if you decide to read the series 😄 3y
vivastory Thanks for the tag. I just saw the notifications! This sounds really intriguing & unique. I placed a hold on volumes 1 & 2 at the library. Hopefully they will resume the series in the future. 3y

Warren Ellis bringing his eye to English Folklore the way he did Popular Fiction in Planetary. Only he is still breaking down Popular Fiction using the main characters. Not sure it will make you a better person, but it will make you more interesting.

Weird combination of occult and science with versions of James Bond and Sherlock Holmes thrown into the mix. Feels like pieces of Global Frequency and Planetary combined with Ellis‘ love of tech and British folklore. Great reading for a rainy day or late night.

I am really getting into this Sherlock like character of Vivek Headland. He's so annoying it's cool.

Music from Bill Bruford to go along with tonight's graphic novel reads.

This Injection series is quite intriguing. I'm not quite sure how to classify it yet. Maybe a bit x-files like? Going to dive into volumes 2 & 3 next.

bookishbunny Hmm, I never heard of this series, but since you said the magic word (X-Files), I think I'll have to check it out. 7y

Really surprised by how much I enjoyed this one! Doesn‘t explain much in the beginning and I was confused at first about what was going on but those last few pages when everything suddenly clicked had me completely hooked. Funny, dark and fantastical in a sci-fi way. Looking forward to the next volume!

ReadingRover Oooh sounds cool! 7y
RainyDayReading @ReadingRover It really was! I was surprised at the humor I found in it as well. I think it would make a great TV series. 7y

Asked the hubby to bring me “that stack of books” because he was up and I didn‘t want to leave the blankets. “No, not that stack. THAT stack!” Jeez.

WarpedSweetness I love that spinny book thing!! (I can speak words so well.) Where did you get it? 7y
BookFreakOut Haha @WarpedSweetness, we actually found it at Goodwill for the shockingly low price of $10! It‘s designed for Little Golden Books so only my smallest paperbacks can fit but I do love it. You can sometimes get things like this when bookstores close (tears for Borders and Hastings). 7y
WarpedSweetness @BookFreakOut I remember when Borders closed. I was in middle or high school and I made my family take me there to get all their discounted books. I can still remember the location of the store in the mall! But that book thing is awesome. I'll have to check out Goodwill and thrift stores now 7y

A young series with soooo much potential! Sophisticated horror, smart dialogue, and a premise that promises an epic scale and endless episodic potential in occurrences of various occult phenomenon. 👻

I read the first volume and liked the underlying premise of the series and the twists enough to continue. On finishing the second volume however, I find the delivery lacking subtlety. It railroads on with an insufferable high handed tone that feels like it should contain deep philosophic meaning, but after it's deciphered turns out basic and disappointing. Lovely artwork but something of a let down story-wise

Set in the future, Vivek a modern day Sherlock and his battle scarred manservant Red, work to curtail the fallout from the Injection - an AI super computer virus that has learned how to manipulate humans and markets. Only Vivek and his team can pinpoint the irregularities, events and chaos caused by the virus.

BekahB I felt so-so about the first volume. I haven't decided if I want to continue with the second volume yet. 8y
MusicalTati Have this to read. Probably won't get to it until next month though. 8y

My latest graphic novel grab from the library. Not sure when I'll get the chance to read them as I'm pretty swamped with thesis and internship but I will find the time somehow

I love searching through piles/shelves/boxes at library sales, thrift shops, and garage sales for #usedbooks and coming back with a stack of treasures. Because I tend to do this often, I have to cull my shelves throughout the year to make room for more books. I usual donate back to the library bookshop. Here's Cinna guarding the stack I recently set aside for the library. He's making sure I don't put any back on my shelf 😄 #augustphotochallenge

SusanInTiburon Handsome! He looks serious about guarding those books, too. 8y

BekahB @CherylDeFranceschi Thanks!! He's actually pretty good at holding his pose for me 😹 Usually when I point my phone at Katniss she runs to me, leaving just a big blurry white streak in the photo. 8y

This vol collects issues 1-5. It blends horror and sci/fi with a bit of fantasy. I really wanted to like this more, especially since it's from Image and I love when horror and sci/fi mesh. I just wasn't pulled in the way I'd hoped to be. The story seemed a little disjointed, partly due to the multiple storylines and the jumps between the past and present. Beautiful illustrations though. It did pique my curiosity enough to pick up the next volume.
