Tragedy strikes early in this story. Modeled after American politician John Edwards‘ life, the Christies are a mess. Parents David and Danielle are flawed and shallow. Teenager Nick is the perfect son. The youngest, Betsy, tells much of the story.
Montemarano jumps around in chronology and perspective, and I couldn‘t connect with the characters. They go through plenty of drama, but show no complex emotions.
