Laudato Si: On Care for Our Common Home | Pope Francis, Catholic Church
12 posts | 5 read | 2 to read
In his second encyclical, Laudato Si': On Care For Our Common Home, Pope Francis draws all Christians into a dialogue with every person on the planet about our common home. We as human beings are united by the concern for our planet and every living thing that dwells on it, especially the poorest and most vulnerable. Pope Francis' letter joins the body of the Church's social and moral teaching and draws on the best scientific research, providing the foundation for "the ethical and spiritual itinerary that follows." Laudato Si' outlines: The current state of our "common home", The Gospel message as seen through creation, The human causes of the ecological crisis, Ecology and the common good, Pope Francis' call to action for each of us, Our Sunday Visitor has included discussion questions, making this edition perfect for individual or group study, leading all Catholics and Christians into a deeper understanding of the importance of this teaching. I picked up this book after watching The Two Popes. It's Pope Francis' major statement on the environment and humanity's obligation to save the planet. The approach is ecological (everything is connected) and humanitarian and deeply critical of our capitalistic narratives of progress. I am glad I read it.

Finished Laudato Si while doing some #audiostitching! I'm at 9.5 hours for the #24B4Monday #readathon, and it's 10:45 pm, so I might as well call it ~10 hours total. I finished 2 books, A Lost Lady and Laudato Si, (I'll post reviews tomorrow), despite a very busy weekend and not much reading time! 😊 Now I'm going to do a little more seminary reading before going to bed! #NFNov @Andrew65 @TheReadingMermaid @jb72 @Clwojick @rsteve388

Fun little #audiorun to break up an evening of reading. And for once, one of my required reads is available as an audiobook, and a free one at that! #NFNov @rsteve388 @Clwojick

TimSpalding I love Pope Francis more than most, but—wow!—I found that some tedious reading. Perhaps it would go down smoother in audiobook form. What are you thinking so far? 4y

Laudato Si: On Care for Our Common Home | Pope Francis, Catholic Church

"The acceptance of our bodies as God's gift is vital for welcoming & accepting the entire world as a gift from the Father & our common home, whereas thinking that we enjoy absolute power over our own bodies turns, often subtly, into thinking that we enjoy absolute power over creation. Learning to accept our body, to care for it & respect its fullest meaning, is an essential element of any genuine human ecology."

"Developing the created world in a prudent way is the best way of caring for it, as this means that we ourselves become the instrument used by God to bring out the potential which he himself inscribed on things: 'The Lord created medicines out of the earth, and a sensible man will not despise them' (Sirach 38:4)."

Taking a free class at Church on #LaudatoSi this is great because the book is so dense and I'm excited to talk about it. Taking notes on what #PopeFrankie says!
