Tengu's Game of Go: Book 4 in the Tale of Shikanoko
Tengu's Game of Go: Book 4 in the Tale of Shikanoko | Lian Hearn
16 posts | 10 read | 49 to read
An epic four-volume adventure in mythical medieval Japan: a world of warriors and assassins, demons and spiritsIn "The Tengu s Game of Go," the final book of Lian Hearn's epic Tale of Shikanoko--all of which will be published in 2016--the rightful emperor is lost; illness and murder give rise to suspicions and make enemies of allies. Unrest rules the country. Only Shika can end the madness by returning the Lotus Throne to its rightful ruler. As destiny weaves its rich tapestry, a compelling drama plays out against a background of wild forests, elegant castles, hidden temples, and savage battlefields. This is the medieval Japan of Lian Hearn's imagination, where animal spirits clash with warriors and children navigate a landscape as serene as it is deadly. The Tale of Shikanoko, Book 1: "Emperor of the Eight Islands" (April 2016)The Tale of Shikanoko, Book 2: "Autumn Princess, Dragon Child" (June 2016)The Tale of Shikanoko, Book 3: "Lord of the Darkwood "(August 2016)The Tale of Shikanoko, Book 4: "The Tengu's Game of Go" (September 2016)"

The book wraps up everything nicely, with plenty of action towards the end. I have not yet read The Tales of the Otori, but was pleasantly surprised when the ending made a clear reference to the Otori name. However, keep in mind these books stand well on their own. But I feel even more incentive now to read Lian Hearn's previous series.

Turns out I have very few books with #pinkcovers. I was about to go in for a repost when this caught my eye, the fourth book of The Tale of Shikanoko I won from @Litsy last year. I'm looking forward to digging into this series. These covers are to die for...the colors, the embossing, the gold-ish leaf. *drool*

thegirlwiththelibrarybag I've got to get back to Lian Hearn! I've loved her since 7y
LindsayReads @thegirlwiththelibrarybag I never heard of her before this series! It's cool to know she's an established SFF author. 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag Under a different name - but yeah. 7y

The Tale of Shikanoko is the Japanese fairytale I‘ve been waiting for. This series tells the story of Shikanoko, an orphaned teenager who is destined to restore the lost emperor to his throne. But this isn‘t your average “chosen one” story. Five boys born at the same time from the combined qualities of five fathers and one mom, a man reincarnated as a horse, and Frankenstein's monster-like beasts—what doesn't this story deliver? 🐉🍱🐲🍁

minkyb I want these! 7y
kdwinchester @minkyb They are from FSG Originals. Hope you get your hands on them soon! 📚 7y

Such a bittersweet thing it was to finish this book, thus finishing the series! Everything did not turn out the way I had hoped, but I am overall very pleased with the ending! These characters truly touched my soul deeply! If you have not read this series, put it on your TBR. This series has earned a coveted spot on my shelves right next to Lord of the Rings!

I'm sad. I'm sad the series is over. With these four books I've grown to care deeply for the characters and I'm going to legitimately miss them. This book started a little slow but everything came full circle and could have only ended the way it did and still be true to the tone of the series. I can't say enough how much I loved these books and this series has become my 2nd favorite of all time edged out only by Harry Potter. ❤️🌟❤️🌟❤️🌟❤️🌟❤️🌟

12parsecs I'm not ready 😭😭 8y

GuiltyFeat Just found out that Lian Hearn is actually Gillian Rubenstein. I just hope Haruki Murakami doesn't turn out to be a pseudonym for Oscar Schimmelman. 8y
Kimmie I have the first one!! Is it good reading @Liberty?? 8y
