The students could interact with this book by writing or telling how they would help a friend that was sick. Then you can encourage students to use these the next time a friend misses school due to sickness.

A Sick Day for Amos McGee won the Caldecott Medal in 2011. This story is about a man who has animal friends that he takes care of everyday. The man, Amos, feels sick one day and does not make it to see the animals, so instead the animals come and take care of him. I thought the illustrations of the animals were realistic looking and gave a sense of reality to the story.

We love this one! It feels like a classic - the illustrations are soft and pleasant, and the story completely charming. A feel-good story of friendship between zookeeper, Amos, and the animals. When Amos isn‘t able to go and do his regular activities with his zoo friends, they come to him!

A Sick Day for Amos McGee is a 2011 Caldecott award winning book. This is a nice little story about Amos and his friend that he would visit every day at the zoo. One day Amos awakes with the sniffles and sneezes and decides to take a day off. However, he was dearly missed by his friends at the zoo so they had to do something about that.

This book is a great book to read to children who may be sick or if there is a sickness going around. In the book, it is talked about how because he was sick, the zookeeper couldn‘t go in, so I think that is a good message for if kids are sick they need to stay home and rest!

A Sick Day for Amos McGee is one of the cutest MF books that I've read! This book is about Amos's job at the zoo. When he's out sick one day, all of his animals come to visit him! This book would be great as a RA! It goes along with the UDL 3.2 (highlight patterns, critical features, big ideas, and relationships) as well as EL 2 (promote cooperation). I think after reading aloud this book would be great to use in small groups! #ucflae3414sp21

“A Sick Day for Amos McGee”, F, is a Caldecott Medal Winner and can work well for a Readers‘ Theater. It tells the story of a zookeeper who is really close with the animals he tends for and one day, they come and visit him when he is sick at home. There is a Teacher‘s Guide to this book at https://www.rif.org/literacy-central/material/sick-day-amos-mcgee-teachers-guide. The UDL 3.2 and 3.3 and ESOL 1 and 10, regarding questioning, best apply

This Caldecott winner is one of a uniquie art style. The illistrator clevorly uses color to emphasize parts of he book. Much of the background has nice detail but is in black and white, what is important has color, and the colors each mean something.

A Sick Day for Amos McGee is written by Philip C. Stead and illustrated by Erin E. Stead. This book is a Caldecott Medal award winning book. The genre is nonfiction. #ucflae3414f19 The book is about a zookeeper who goes to visit the animals at the zoo every morning at 6 a.m. One day, Amos gets sick and doesn‘t go to work. The animals all wait at the bus stop, get on the bus, and go visit Amos at his house to help him until he went to bed.

alexblanco A teaching strategy I would use for this book would be readers theater. I would assign a student to be Amos and other students to be different animals and act it out. An ESOL strategy I would use would be to use direct instruction such as modeling, explaining, scaffolding, name the strategy and show how to use it. 5y
alexblanco By acting it out during readers theater, other students can model it for the ESOL students. I would also explain to them throughout the performance. A UDL strategy I would use would be to foster collaboration and community. I think by doing a readers theater, it would help my students work together and collaborate. 5y
alexblanco A lesson plan I would use for this book would be this complete literature study. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/A-Sick-Day-for-Amos-McGee-by-Philip-... I think it is good because it includes cause and effect, sequence of events, and comprehension questions. 5y
DrSpalding Direct instruction and then readers theater would work well with this award winner. 5y

A sick day for Amos McGee by Philip C. Stead and Erin E. Stead was the Caldecott award winner in 2011. This is a heart warming and just really sweet story of a cute little old man that usually visits his friends at the zoo everyday and does what they like ,and on a day where Amos is sick all his zoo friends come over and does things he likes. I personally don't like the use of so much white on the page but the specific use of color was interesting
