I went through a big Alice Munro phase many years ago but had never read this. In The View from Castle Rock, Munro tells the stories of her family over several generations. She begins with tales of her Scottish ancestors and their voyage to a new life in North America and continues with the lives of her pioneering relatives and on to her immediate family‘s experiences. Her writing is so beautiful, I want to go back and revisit her other works.
A beautiful blend of fact and fiction woven through this delightful book of short stories by Nobel Literature Prize winner, Canadian author Alice Munro. Great book group read.
My red, white & blue stack ❤👻💙
This family-history-memoir-in-short-stories didn't hit me right at all. Very very dry, and churchy, with none of the psychological hijinks I love in a vintage Munro story. Plus I didn't like the audio narrator's schoolmarmish voice. Perhaps I will give it another go in text form down the road. But to be honest I'll probably read absolutely everything else by her first.
Our book club did a holiday book swap at a wine bar in DC tonight; scored this beauty and I'm feeling pretty festive about it. 🎄📚🍷
First theatre production of my festival season: Alice Munro, a word for word adaptation of her recreation of her ancestors' passage from Scotland to Nova Scotia. Performed in an old, gloomy church in the shadow of Edinburgh Castle #edbookfest
Another find at the $5 book sale in Tokyo!
Alice Munro is the goddess!
