As a young artist living in Portland, Lacy Davis' eating disorder began with the germ of an idea: a seed of a thought that told her she just wasn't good enough . And like ink in water, that idea spread until it reached every corner of her being.This is the true story of Lacy's journey into the self-destructive world of multiple eating disorders. It starts with a young and positive Lacy, trying to grapple with our culture's body-image obsession and stay true to her riot grrrl roots. And while she initially succeeds in overcoming a nagging rumination about her body, a break up with a recovering addict starts her on a collision course with anorexia, health food obsession, and compulsive exercise addiction. This covers a lot of territory in a short book, and it is realistic without being too hard to read. It is candid and personal. An excellent graphic memoir.

A really powerful graphic memoir chronicling the author‘s ongoing struggle with ED. The illustrator (who I believe is Lacy‘s partner and, presumably, able to really tap into her feelings) does a fantastic job depicting her disordered thoughts and actions and using gray scale to show emotion. Addiction of all kinds is a powerful brain warp but I can‘t imagine fighting it while society is simultaneously telling you to exercise a lot and stay skinny.

MarriedtoMrT I‘m going to post another picture but I was afraid it might be triggering so I‘m going to put it under a spoiler tag. It‘s not graphic, though, but such a great example, to me, of the author and illustrator‘s work. 6y

I have fallen completely in love with this book, easily the best graphic memoir I have read, and I'm really bummed that it's not getting more buzz. It's just SO GOOD. Davis' story of her struggle with eating disorders is so honest and inspiring, while Kettner's artwork is engaging and emotive. The combo of the two made for a book I could not put down.

It's fantastic, just fantastic, and everyone should read it.

#TBRtemptation post 8! Recently released. This is a graphic memoir about one young woman's struggle with anorexia and body image disorders. It started with a break-up with a recovering addict and saw her wind up at an Overeaters Anonymous course, finding that it conflicted with her punk feminist ideology. This is considered a brutal look into her damaging thoughts and self-destructive behaviors. Wonderfully illustrated! #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
