The new series from the author of The Silence of the Library and Murder Past Due... New York Times bestselling author Miranda James returns to Athena, Mississippi, with an all-new mystery featuring Miss An’gel and Miss Dickce Ducote, two snoopy sisters who are always ready to lend a helping hand. But when a stressed socialite brings murder right to their doorstep, even they have trouble maintaining their Southern hospitality… With the Mississippi sun beating down, An’gel and Dickce are taking a break to cool off and pet sit their friend Charlie Harris’s cat, Diesel, when their former sorority sister, Rosabelle Sultan, shows up at their door unexpectedly, with her ne’er-do-well adult children not far behind. Rosabelle’s selfish offspring are desperate to discover what’s in her will, and it soon becomes clear that one of them would kill to get their hands on the inheritance. Suddenly caught up in a deadly tangle of duplicitous suspects and deep-fried motives, it will take all of the sisters’ Southern charm to catch a decidedly ill-mannered killer…

This was a fun #cozymystery featuring two 80+ year old sisters in a small Southern town. Solid characters, well paced, twisting murder plot, and cute animals. #ILoveCozies

I‘ve been trying to make some friends in my new town and I found a cozy mystery book club on meetup.com. They were reading this for the August meeting. I read it and unfortunately I didn‘t find it very good. It was fast-moving and engaging, but the resolution of the mystery happened in the last 2 pages and the motive was weak. I ended up not going to the meeting because the book was so frustrating to me. I prefer more realistic mysteries I guess.

I really enjoyed this new series by Miranda James. It is a spin off from the Cat in the Stacks series. Desiel the Maine Coon cat is the connecting character. Desiel needs cat sitting and so enters An'gel and Dickce two elderly sisters in town with several unexpected visitors who bring murder with them. Using their souther charm and hospitality the two sisters set out to solve who is killing their guests, and even worse showing very bad manners .

The family was as obnoxious as can be but the mystery was great. The sisters from the Cat in the Stacks series are fun protagonists for this spinoff.

Two genteel southern ladies dealing with not-so-genteel murder in their home, and a large Maine Coon cat giving character references. A fun read, although I tend to like a bit more explanation at the end of murder mysteries.
