Halloween-themed vignettes illustrated with wry, spooky monster cartoons are also designed to be turned over and read from the opposite direction, where fans will discover a sequence of imaginative ghosts.

While "A Halloween Treat" is rather whimsical, the "Gorey's Ghosts" section of the book has some rather more Gothic and macabre illustrations. I like this one, although it gives me a prickly feeling at the back of my neck ?

1. Nerds, butterfinger, those carmel apple suckers
2. More cute spooky, but I also enjoy action and suspense. No to the gore though.
3. Mugs and pins. Anything with cats lol
4. Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter or Damon Salvatore from Vampire Diaries

Pickpick

Some too-brief Halloween whimsicality on the one side, and on the other side (literally, as it's a flip-over book) a "curated" (which is to say, "previously published") selection of Gorey illustrations of ghosts. Probably not the best place to start a Gorey experience, but if you're a seasoned Goreyphile then there's nothing not to like.

saresmoore Well, now I‘m intrigued. Where, would you say, is a good place to start the Gorey experience? 6y
Bookwomble @saresmoore My own excursions are rather shallow at present, but The Gashlycrumb Tinies is apparently a fair representation. If you want to wade out a little further, "Amphigorey" is a collection of several of his works, which I don't (yet) have myself but it's well reviewed. My own first dip was with The Epiplectic Bicycle, which took me several reads to appreciate. Gorey is minimalistic, so he expects you to do some of the imaginative work. 6y
saresmoore Thank you! I‘ve only been peripherally aware (if at all) of many of the books you‘ve posted about. I‘m learning a lot & it‘s much more fun than news coverage! 6y
Bookwomble @saresmoore Most of my library is older stuff (according to Library Thing stats, my average book publication date is 1987, but that's skewed towards the present as it's not *original* publication date), so I'm equally unaware of lots of newer books other Litsy users are raving about! 6y
