Summer Secrets
Summer Secrets: A Novel | Jane Green
With Summer Secrets Jane Green has reached an even deeper level of emotion that will stay with you long after you turn the last page... Living in London in her twenties, Cat had it all--a great job and wonderful friends. But with the good came the bad--a party every night, wreaking havoc, and blackouts. When she discovers the father she never knew she had, living in Nantucket, it sends her into a spiral, costing her the new family she had desperately craved. The drinking had always been a constant evil in Cat's life. Now in her late thirties, sober, divorced from the love of her life, and trying to make up for lost time with her teenage daughter, she's ready to make amends to those she has hurt. But facing the past and the unthinkable act she committed one summer night could change the course of her life forever.

Large leaves of iceberg lettuce... peeled pear halves... mayonnaise... grated cheese...

Day 1, starting book 3... did people really eat this sort of thing in the 1960s?

VioletBramble Not in my neighborhood. Sounds disgusting. 5y
kgriffith Yikes. 5y
umbrellagirl @VioletBramble I think the Mayo sounds like the worst bit. 5y

VioletBramble Yes, mayonnaise belongs no where near fruit. 5y
Bookzombie Um, my mom made this as a dessert when I was a kid in the 80s. The only difference was she used Miracle Whip. 5y
umbrellagirl @Bookzombie wow! Did it taste good? It seems such an odd combination. 5y
Bookzombie @umbrellagirl As a kid, I looked forward to it. As an adult, I‘m kind of meh about it. Lol. We never ate the lettuce. Mom didn‘t even put it down usually. The idea of mayonnaise grosses me out though. 🙂 5y

Not my normal cup of tea but I couldn‘t put this book down. I read it in one afternoon sitting by the pool. Drinking problems have plagued my family so I tend to avoid fiction that portrays it. I am glad I made the exception for this novel.

I need to keep going with the summer books. No brainers. This one was good, easy read but not as good as some of her others.

Some #FrenchKissingInTheUSA (and more) causes problems in this book that is a quick read to accompany your #SoakUpTheSun this #Summer! The book opens with Cat, a recovering alcoholic. It‘s not quite the lighthearted read that I expected- and the ending felt rather abrupt, but it certainly helped get me through my Monday laundry day! #WanderingJune #SongsOfSummer #30JuneBooks

bookseller_cate Great pic! Wish the book had been enjoyable for you. 6y
TorieStorieS @bookseller_cate Thanks!! 😊 it‘s probably between a pick and so-so, but the ending wasn‘t as fulfilling as I expected! Oh well! 🤷‍♀️ 6y

I decided to take a different route home from work today and came across this amazing shop. I somehow managed to only walk away with one new acquisition. #usedbooks #newtome
