I‘m about 60% into the tagged book now, and I totally understand its low Litsy rating. I‘m enjoying it, but anyone who goes in expecting a proper mystery is liable to be disappointed. This is really character-focused historical fiction with a crime component.

My #audiowalk didn‘t feel especially hot, but when I got home I had to change every single item of clothing because oof. So much sweat.

Murder at the Flamingo is the first novel I‘ve read by Rachel McMillan & I am glad I read this book. Reading this novel is like stepping into a 1930s RKO masterpiece. I enjoyed everything: the sense of nostalgia, the references to classic films & actors/actresses, the setting descriptions, fabulous characters who endeared themselves to my heart almost immediately, & a tremendously engaging plot! Murder at the Flamingo is a definite #MustRead!

Unfortunately this was probably closer to a “Pan” than a “So-so” for me. The murder from the title did not even happen until 56% into the story. And it was never really clear to me if it was an intentional murder or more of an accidental one (if that makes any sense). I found the writing often hard to follow and had no real feeling for any of the characters. And while this is the start of a series, I don‘t have plans to read more. 2.75/5⭐️ 🔽

Well, life intervened in my reading plans more than I expected, so I didn‘t get close to 24 hours. Still, I finished 3 books and read another 3—a productive weekend, I‘d say. #24in48

#24in48 Time: 5 hours, 40 minutes

I liked the characters - a young lady asserting her independence from her high society family and a bookish, shy young man trying to find his own path apart from his well-meaning but overbearing father - and the setting - 1930s Boston night club scene. Unfortunately the story didn't hold my interest. The murder didn't happen until more than halfway into the book and by the time they started to solve the mystery I was too bored to care anymore.

I'm enjoying this book, but what is the deal with female characters in books biting their lip?! Drives me a little crazy!
