pickPowerful, gripping and thought-provoking stuff. This is a collection of 4 novellas, 2 by each author, set in the same fantasy setting. I couldn't put this down.

So while working my over night shifts I have been reading The Tangled Lands on my phone and I‘m not sure how I feel about it so far. I‘m 40% of the way through it and I‘m not sure if it‘s split into separate stories but the first half just kind of ended?!? I‘m not sure, and then a new story started from a new character same story. It has interesting elements but I‘m confused if the characters will ever cross paths.

These are all books that are on the bookshelf in my bedroom and are all books on my tbr shortlist!
My son wanted to go to the bookstore today; of course, I said “no” since I‘d just gone yesterday. Joke! Of course, I went. Here‘s what I got.
so-soFour stories connected by place, the land of Khaim, where brambles ruin lives. The brambles‘ uncontrolled growth is caused by the use of magic which becomes a commodity wielded by the rich. A couple of recurring characters. A couple of stories end abruptly. Would have been stronger as a novel.
pickAt first I was disappointed to find out this was a book of four stories set in one world, instead of a novel, but it was pretty good. Magic has been banned in Khaim because it causes the bramble to grow, choking out the cities and life. If the bramble touches you, you fall into a deep sleep. Only the Majister Scacz is can use magic, and yet, so many others do. These are really tales of the lesser people fighting back, and losing people.

pickThis wasn't exactly what I was expecting but I really enjoyed this! Lots of different POVs and consistent writing between the two authors. I was expecting them to try and solve the toxic magic stuff destroying the town but that's not the point of the book. Really cool and fast read and A FANTASY STAND ALONE!
