Huh?
Huh?: The Joys, Sorrows and Comic Relief of Miscommunication | James Anthony Ellis
7 posts
Huh? The Joys, Sorrows and Comic Relief of Miscommunication" is a satirical view on this silly thing we call "communication." This is a lighthearted yet biting look at the mishaps, misfires and blunders we experience as we attempt to send and receive messages in this modern age. This hands-on "how-to" manual outlines the various "miscommunication" techniques in interpersonal relationships, as readers are guided to laugh at themselves and the errors of their ways. In the end, however, the laughs turn to tears as the author uncovers the true intention of all of our words and e-mails and texts and tweets: a desperate yet endearing need to connect with one another.

Have to agree with @monalyisha on the font lol.
1. ARC of Monster, She Wrote, The Last Days of Video and Gulliver‘s Travels
2. Probably a cozy mystery
3. Do Comic books count? Captain Marvel

I rarely read physical books anymore, I 💗💗💗 my tablet. But I wanted to read a book I wasn't sure I wanted to buy and my local library didn't have an electronic copy. When I put the physical book on hold, I got this message.

Is this something libraries are doing now? Charging $1 if you don't pick up your hold?

I don't get it. Anyone? Librarians? ????

scripturient Here, you even have to pay 2 Euros to put a book on hold in the first place. 😉 6y
imabusybee Here in California you would only be charged if the book had to be transferred back to the original library if not picked up..pays for gas and the driver. 6y
Zelma Going through the hold list every day, pulling them from the shelves and making phone calls to let patrons know can take a lot of time. If they have a fine now, it‘s probably in response to a significant number holds not being picked up. That results in wasted time and effort by staff and other tasks getting short shift. 6y

SandyW @scripturient I didn't realize how good I had it here! I'm sure that cuts down on holds... But it also restricts access to new releases to those who can afford to "rent" books, not what I envision the spirit of the library to be. 6y
SandyW @imabusybee That makes sense, but it also restricts access to books to those who can afford to "rent." 6y
SandyW @Zelma That makes sense. 6y
imabusybee They should only charge you if you don't pick up the book after the hold period is over. 6y
cathysaid But aren't our property taxes (in the US) paying for the libraries? Seems similar to having toll roads...double taxation. I understand libraries in many areas are seriously underfunded, but the way to make up for shortfalls shouldn't include imposing further fees. 6y
alisiakae I kind of understand why, but I would find this difficult because I sometimes miss the emails that notify me a book I put a hold on has arrived. 6y
Redwritinghood I haven‘t seen this before, but I can sort of understand the reasons for it if they‘re carting the book from another library, maybe. 6y
SandyW @cathysaid I totally agree with this sentiment. Perhaps they should consider a three strikes kind of rule: if you abuse the hold system three times, you can't place a book on hold for 3 months. 6y
SandyW @imabusybee That's what they're doing here. 6y
SandyW @4thhouseontheleft Depending on your email, you can always set up an alert, or create a library folder and have those emails go there. Then you'll see when you have new library mail. 6y
SandyW @Redwritinghood I love Litsy. I've gotten a bunch of suggestion why. But I still think this idea punishes the people who need the library the most. People with more disposable income won't worry about $1. People with less or none won't put books on hold, so they'll have to wait longer to read the "hot" books. 6y
Soubhiville Knoxville TN doesn‘t do this, but Austin TX does. I think it‘s just so folks don‘t abuse the hold system. I see your point though. A few dollars can mean a lot to some people. 6y

On the coffee cup at the hotel this morning. @MrBook

Aimeesue "Just hold it right there. That's hot enough for you, missy!" ? (edited) 6y
MrBook 😂😂😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 6y
GingerAntics If it‘s already hot enough for a caution, why would one need to put it in the microwave? 6y
Lcsmcat @GingerAntics I think someone is confused about the function of microwaves. 6y
GingerAntics Oh yes, that‘s it!!! That makes perfect sense. 6y

So AusPost, the package to the US that I paid an extra $25 for express has just got to New York, but the one I sent normal mail to the UK has already been delivered? Can I have my money back? No?? At least it‘s in the right country @Ingerella so you should have it soon🤞 #MyBloodyValentineSwap

LeeRHarry Aus Post - so incredibly unreliable...😔 7y
Ingerella No worries @Lizpixie ! I'm excited that it's getting close though! 7y
Lizpixie @Ingerella I‘m so sorry it‘s decided to take the scenic route! Hopefully it‘ll get to you in the next few days. Fingers crossed🤞 7y

Lizpixie @Ingerella I just got an email saying they attempted delivery of your package, I assume you mustn‘t have been home? Let me know if you need the tracking number to pick it up from the post office ok.👍 7y
Ingerella @Lizpixie They did! The notice was on my door when I got home from work. My husband is going to pick it up for me on his way to work this morning, so I will have it tonight. I'm so excited! 7y
Lizpixie @Ingerella yay! I hope you like it, it‘s not as grand as I planned on it being, but I did my best. Excuse the wrapping job though, do you know how hard it is to wrap stuff when you‘re on complete bedrest with your knee elevated? I didn‘t either, but I sure do now!😬 7y

What‘s this now? Isn‘t this what Goodreads has always been about? What‘s new?

slategreyskies 🤷‍♀️ 7y
[DELETED] 3803335244 Is this on Goodreads? 7y
tricours @ForeverNerdy yep! And when I marked a book as read in the app it just disappeared (so I had to search to find it) instead of giving me the option to add a review... 7y

[DELETED] 3803335244 @tricours oh this stinks! I liked Goodreads the way it was, why would they go & change it? If it‘s not broken don‘t fix it, kind of feeling. Maybe it will be better? Here‘s hoping 7y
[DELETED] 3803335244 @tricours maybe they are going to update the app soon so it can add reviews? Crossing fingers 7y
SandyW Perhaps they're revamping the whole site, I hope. Goodreads has been "losing" my books into history. I write a review and more than half the time it doesn't show in my thread at the date I finished. It says I read 52 books this year when in fact I've read 143. Frustrating. 7y
