The Courage To Be Disliked
The Courage To Be Disliked: How to free yourself, change your life and achieve real happiness | Ichiro Kishimi, Fumitake Koga
The Japanese phenomenon that teaches us the simple yet profound lessons required to liberate our real selves and find lasting happiness. The Courage to be Disliked shows you how to unlock the power within yourself to become your best and truest self, change your future and find lasting happiness. Using the theories of Alfred Adler, one of the three giants of 19th century psychology alongside Freud and Jung, the authors explain how we are all free to determine our own future free of the shackles of past experiences, doubts and the expectations of others. It's a philosophy that's profoundly liberating, allowing us to develop the courage to change, and to ignore the limitations that we and those around us can place on ourselves. The result is a book that is both highly accessible and profound in its importance. Millions have already read and benefited from its wisdom. Now that The Courage to be Disliked has been published for the first time in English, so can you. Three million copies sold worldwide.

This is my first conscious exposure to Adlerian psychology and I'm glad it was through a fictional presentation of the ideas passed between philosopher and student. While absorbing the points made by the elder, my counter arguments were voiced by the young student. Invariably, I came around the same time as the student. I need to read it again, but I definitely recommend this book as a starting point.

The audiobook was great.

To the point. Honest and simple.
It can get irritating how calm and straightforward the teacher is.

Life is simple. Live in the current and now with my community. Build inter personal relationship with my comrades. Happiness will come naturally. It sounds easy to preach than to actually practice it. However it‘s a sound advice to be happy 😅 A ⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me as the dialogue did confuse me #bookspin for March completed 💪🏻 #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks

So here‘s my pick for March‘s #bookspin no.14 #bookspinbingo no.9 which translates to alphabets N and I. I contemplated between Nora Roberts, Nicci French and Ichiro Kishimi, in the end The Courage To Be Disliked won! However I have to start on another book first for another challenge, this one will be next @TheAromaofBooks

I really enjoyed this dialog between a philosopher and a young man. Go figure, I had never come across Adler‘s teachings; which I find fascinating. I come out of this feeling that the hardest things are sometimes the simplest. Very interesting reframing. The writing of the YM‘s bits bothered me, but it might be a translation issue. Nonetheless, I was able to take away the core of the message.

The format of this book was unique- a conversation with a wise philosopher of Socratic and Adlerian leanings and a curious young man. This was brilliantly executed and poignant, even life-changing in its approach to meaning, happiness and suffering. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Presented as a conversation between a philosopher and a youth that explores Adler‘s psychology which to me appeared very common sense and resonated with with my attempts at parenting. For example explaining to children the futility of comparing themselves as they can never be the other person, rather to focus on what they can offer “contribute”. I am going to buy a copy as I believe I could read this each year and learn more. More Adler to read.❤️

Wonderful book that portrays Alfred Adler's idea's in an extremely interesting way that manages to suck you in and consumes you completely until you have finished it. The format of the book was great and relatable, felt like a breathe of fresh air. If you want an introduction to Alfred Adler's idea's but get bored easily than this is the book for you and if not it is still the book for you lol.

MrB1 @CoffeeNBooks thanks, how do you read so many books at once? I‘m currently reading two but one is fiction and the other philosophy so it kind of works for different parts of the day. 5y
MrB1 @Leftcoastzen thanks, yeah it‘s pretty cool. Easy to read but opens your mind a lot 5y

Its miraculous that I am finding books that I must read, that starkly validate my beliefs. My sister says that I am receiving “spiritual guidance”. All I can say is that I love, love, love all I learned from this book. As the philosopher says, in it, written as a dialogue between a philosopher and his student: I was led to the well and “drank the water”. “Someone has to start” and that will be me. Read this book to know what I mean. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It's snowing in Oklahoma and the temperatures are supposed to drop as the day goes on. So, it's a perfect day to stay at home, wrapped in a blanket, with tea and chocolate nearby, reading a new book.

Not quite finished but it was doing my head in. I might get to finish it but not too sure. Some good ideas and lots to think about. Written as a conversation between a youth and a philosopher. I‘ve read a lot of new age type books and this one seems to be very similar — change your thinking, change your life. I gave up when it was mentioned that you might need ten years! 😊 . @MrsMalaprop

@MrsMalaprop started this morning. Seems it is based on the theories of Adler. Guessing you would know about him. What I‘ve read so far seems very like a lot of the modern self help thinking. Written as a conversation between a youth and a philosopher.

MrsMalaprop Hmm, don‘t remember much about Adler 🤔. Parted ways with Freud? Individual psychology. Self help not generally my jam, but am keen to hear your recommendation 😊. 6y
