7 posts | 6 read | 3 to read
From the highly acclaimed author of Dont Try to Find Me and This is Not Over comes the unforgettable, harrowing story of a young broadcast journalist who discovers a mysterious diary from a female broadcaster in 1991 featuring startlingand frighteningparallels to her own life. Oh, how far shes comebut how far will she have to go? Twenty-four-year-old Cheyenne Florian has just received the kind of job offer that dreams are made of. On the strength of a few vlogs, shes recruited to be the new correspondent on the recently hatched Independent News Network, INN. With its slogan Because independent thinking is the only way out, INN strives to be exciting and innovative. Yet once Cheyenne joins the INN team, shes disappointed to find age-old dynamics in play. A few of the female staff resent her meteoric rise, while some of the men are only too happy to welcome her. Even Edwin warns her to watch her back. And then theres the diary left for her anonymously, written by a female broadcast journalist icon named Elyse Rohrbach in 1991. The mysterious diary is accompanied by a note, urging Cheyenne to learn from the past. Is it meant as inspiration and friendly adviceor as a warning? Still, she cant see how it has anything to do with heruntil disturbing events begin. As more unsettling events unfoldevents that appear as if someone is engineering the similarities in Cheyennes life to match those from Elyses pastit becomes clear that she is a pawn in a very twisted game. But Cheyenne is determined to rewrite the rules and play her own game. Though theyre separated by more than twenty-five years, Elyse and Cheyenne are learning the same lesson: Nothing is more threatening than a woman who doesnt yet know her own power

This book mentions sexual harrassment in the workplace and the #metoomovement. I won this book from Goodreads in 2018 and I understand why I waited so long to read it because I wasn‘t in the mood to read it when I first got it and I guess I was worried I wasn‘t going to like it and I ended up not liking it very much. It‘s an intense book.

YES!!!! Have you guys seen this? The new Libby update allows 3x the speed! I am pumped up for this. I always listen to audiobooks on 2x the speed, but sometimes the narrators read a bit slow, so I love the option of listening at 3x the speed. Though, I can only retain the info/plot if I‘m listening with my headphones in. Otherwise it sounds like chipmunks.

Do any of you guys also listen at 2x or 3x the speed?

cariashley I listen at 1.25 or sometimes 1.5, have found I struggle to comprehend when it‘s faster than that! I wish I could though! 7y
MuddyPuddle Nope. I miss too much. 7y
Clwojick @cariashley Yeah, I get that. For fiction, I can handle the speed faster. But for nonfiction, I could never retain the info above 2x the speed 7y

Karkar I am currently at 1.25. Would like to go faster but not sure if I can retain anything. 🤔 7y
Derf X3 is impressive, I listen 1.5 on Audible. The chipmunks are entertaining too though 🙌🏻😂 7y
Q84 Yeah I do depending on the book but I speed most up. I've only listened to a few at 3x speed 7y
amb I'm in the 1.5x camp, I can't multitask if it's faster than that 7y
BibliOphelia I want to listen at 2x so I can get more in, but so tend to obsess over each word and am constantly rewinding if I miss one. Maybe if it were a quick thriller or mystery read and I was mostly trying to devour the plot...? 7y
xicanti I never, ever listen below 2x. It amazes me how many people stick to 1x as a matter of course, since I find most performance-minded people speak. way. too. slow. ly. for. me. I end up getting pissed off because OMG, nobody talks like that. 7y
Cailey_Mac It depends on the speaker; if they are speaking slowly, then 2x makes it sound like a regular speed, but if they‘re talking slightly faster, it‘s like I need a 1.75; 1.5 is toooo slow for that, but then the 2x makes it sound like an over excited teenager 😂💀 7y

Pickpick

Although I wasn't initially that into hearing about the news network business, this ended up being a decent workplace thriller. It focuses on sexism, hostile workplaces, sexual assault, and what it's like to be a female in the workplace now versus in the past and what needs to change. It is very much inspired by the #MeToo movement and the US 2016 presidential election/how a man can stay powerful regardless of his treatment of women. 3.5/5

2) Women gets job at news network, she experiences sexism, power struggles, and anonymously receives diary entries about a reporter who is stalked and attacked, will the same happen to her?
3) Thriller and horror
4) about 82 degrees F 🌞
5) shopping trip with my aunt and then complete and total relaxation at home while enjoying my weekend off! 😁
