#DoubleBookSpin for January ✅

Most of this book is an interview with Pope Francis and the last part is a papal letter about the Holy Year of Mercy (2016). Most of it is still relevant since the central message is mercy - that god has mercy for us and that we should have compassion for ourselves & for each other. A bit repetitive, but the pope‘s stories were interesting and he expresses himself well.

An interesting insight into the thinking of the current Pope which I think will be of interest to Christians and sympathetic non-believers alike #spiritualreading #lent

I honestly just think more Christians need to stop ignoring Jesus and listen to Papa Frank. Too many out there are giving us a bad name.

Dollar Tree #bookhaul that I didn't tell my husband about immediately. Lol Not that he would disapprove of a $2 purchase. It is a rather #Catholic book haul, even for #HolyWeek, but I recently decided that I want to read something by Pope Francis, and the other is concerning a frequent topic on a FB page I follow. And there they both were in the same aisle as the coloring books I was after.

RadicalReader There‘s nothing better than a bargain when it comes to books 6y
SleepyDragon @RadicalReader Did you see the price sticker still on the Pope Francis book? I saved $13 in that one alone! I love Dollar Tree. 6y

I love the Pope. Lots of kind and uplifting words. It's short so could be savoured one q&a at a time or read in one go.

I started RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) yesterday, so I thought it was fitting to start this book today and read the words of the Pope as I officially begin the path to Catholicism 🙏😊

It‘s refreshing to hear a figure of Christianity speak of a God of mercy. Though I disagree with Pope Francis on points, I am glad I read this to get a peak inside his beliefs.

Now if he‘d just ordain women and open up the Vatican archives... I can dream, can‘t I? 😂

This felt like an appropriate choice for a couple of long drives to the pastoral center and back. Very good! I had never spent much time thinking about confession from the confessor's side so I in particular enjoyed those parts.

The Catholic Church should come with a trigger warning. (Don't mean to offend anyone and maybe it could be said of all forms of religion...) However, when the Pope came to the U.S. last year, I found myself in tears as I watched him non-stop during the weekend events. This man, this representative of the Church, opened my heart. While the book made me cringe occasionally, I also received some comfort. We are fortunate to have him with us now.

JoeStalksBeck I'm not religious but I do like this guy. He's not your typical "stereotype " for a pope . And he has a chemistry degree! ? 8y
Suet624 @GoodallBookHaul I hope he gets to stay for awhile. He's making some great changes in a very creaky organization. 8y
MicheleinPhilly I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic schools all my life. I no longer practice and have MAJOR issues with the Church, but I find Pope Francis inspiring. I think it's the Jesuit in him. ☺ 8y

saresmoore Great review! 8y
Suet624 @MicheleinPhilly yes, I know how you feel. I will say that the church was a place where I could sit in front of a statue of what I considered to be the Divine Feminine. (edited) 8y
LitHousewife From the moment I heard that he took the name Francis I have loved him. I wasn't practicing anymore at the time and now I am. He's definitely filled my heart. I her to read this book. 8y

Corruption is not an act but a condition, a personal and social state in which we become accustomed to living...The corrupt man gets angry because his wallet is stolen and so he complains about the lack of safety on the streets, but then he is the one who cheats the state by evading taxes, or else he fires his employees every 3 months so he doesn't have to hire them with a permanent contract ..Then he boasts to his friends about his cunning ways.

I'm not Catholic but this book has been on my list for a while, because I find this man fascinating and I would love to learn more about his theology. Seems like an appropiate time of year to pick this book up! #lent #marchmadness

#4 #libfaves16'What I took away from the book was the concept of mercy and forgiveness, that we have the power to forgive and wipe away past wrongs. It becomes a universal message of peace. We can treat each other with dignity, forgive those that trespass against us, and move forward. It is a powerful message for anyone and it is particularly good to hear this message from the Catholic Church.

A semi short read that is easy to understand while feeling inspired and humbled all at the same time! Pope Francis elaborates on the true mercy of God and how we are to embrace such love and then apply it to those around us. Despite your religion, he speaks openly and profoundly on seeking to make the world a place of peace, solidarity, forgiveness, and merciful love.

Have a blessed Sunday everyone and coming week! 🕯🙏🏻

Mehso-so

Audio. Non Fiction. I checked this out not realizing it was a transcript of an interview in book form. The so-so doesn't come from the context but more from the notion I would have enjoyed seeing this exchange or listening to it between the people involved. The thoughts of His Holiness are beautiful

I'm not Catholic, but I like a lot of Pope Francis' views. Nice, quick read. Talks a lot about forgiveness.

Just downloaded a sample of this for my Kindle. Has anyone read this? Not my normal historical fiction, so I'm not sure if I want to buy it.
