Fragments of Horror
Fragments of Horror | Junji Ito
22 posts | 25 read | 3 to read
A new collection of delightfully macabre tales from a master of horror manga. An old wooden mansion that turns on its inhabitants. A dissection class with a most unusual subject. A funeral where the dead are definitely not laid to rest. Ranging from the terrifying to the comedic, from the erotic to the loathsome, these stories showcase Junji Itos long-awaited return to the world of horror. -- VIZ Media

Mehso-so

Not my favourite Ito. While his art was beautiful and scary as usual, the stories fell flat, felt disjointed and cut short. I‘d say this collection of short stories were mostly of the body horror nature, and that usually isn‘t my favourite. Overall, a meh.

⭐️⭐️

ReadingOver50 I like his books too. Haven‘t read this one. 2y
StellaDz @ReadingOver50 I usually grab one each year for Halloween. This is my third! 2y

Such a bizarre and surreal collection of short stories.

Lots of twisted cosmic and body horror with illustrations that have forever been burned into my mind.

This is a great collection of short horror Manga. I love the twists and turns of a great Junji Ito story. Of course, the artwork is fantastic, too. The dust jacket is on the right, the book without jacket is on the left.

The nature of Junji Ito‘s brilliant works best in tales such as this. Eerie, creepy, and short, disturbing bursts of otherworldly *strange*.

If you‘re not familiar with his works and curious, start here.

(My last finish of the #SummersEndReadathon! 🎉📖🥂)

rajithr I ❤️ Tomie (no pun intended 😀) 5y

BekahB I love his work! I'm excited for Shiver to come out in December. I think they might all be previously released stories but I'm hoping Viz will keep the same deluxe hardcover format they did for Tomie, Gyo, and Uzumaki. 😄 7y
Leniverse Oh yeah, Junji Ito. I'll forever be distressed by snails because of him! 😳🤢😩 7y
AdaChivers @BekahB I didn't know him, It was a complete impulse buy! Amazing! 7y

BekahB @AdaChivers his work is so strange, but amazing! Uzumaki is my favorite. He has a more light-hearted (but still weird) manga about adapting to living with his fiancé's cats called Junji Ito's Cat Diary: Yon & Mu. It makes me laugh every time I read it. 7y
AdaChivers @BekahB @Leniverse I think It is the First time he is ou in Brazil, but I'll try to find his other Works! 7y
Leniverse @AdaChivers @BekahB Yes, Uzumaki is the one I've read. Amazing and really disturbing! 7y

As a short story collection, Fragments of Horror was a strong one, with most the the tales being good and a few being fantastic.

I loved the haunting Whispering Woman and the bizarre Dissection-chan. Red Turtleneck was disgusting in the best way possible.

Very much recommended to horror lovers. Avoid if squeamish, as it has a lot of body horror.
