Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ of 5 ⭐️s

Not the most sympathetic protagonist, to be sure, but that‘s why I found her interesting, and quite human. Did feel quite sorry for poor Alma while reading this though - not least because her music is quite lovely. Makes me wonder what kind of composer she could‘ve grown into, had she been given the chance.

While the basic essentials are important in this time of quarantine and pandemics, non-essentials like sugary treats can be just as important - for the soul, at least, if not necessarily the body. So I'm glad that it's still possible to get some treats (like sourdough doughnuts filled with lemon meringue) delivered even when there's a total lockdown in my part of the world. And fortunately, lockdowns don't apply to ebooks ;D.

Book mail!

I won this through a Shelf Awareness/author giveaway and isn‘t it a thing of beauty??

Mary Sharratt recreates the life of the controversial Alma Mahler: composer, author, muse of Klimt and wife to the composer Gustav Mahler. I‘m very much looking forward to stepping back into turn-of-the-twentieth-century Vienna with this one.

Such a beautifully written story about a talented woman who struggled to keep true to her passions while also giving her all to a demanding husband and their children. So relatable to modern woman trying to balance the many facets of life. I couldn‘t stand the husband - he was soooo selfish - but I loved seeing Alma‘s journey. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 1/2

DogEaredBooks It‘s gorgeous. It looks like Alphonse Mucha! I‘ve been toying with the idea of scanning and hanging my favorite covers as some sort of home art 🤔🤷‍♀️ (edited) 7y

So excited to get my hands on an advance copy of this one! Been dying for it since I heard the author speak at the Historical Novel Society Conference back in June.
