The castle secured, Ramsay rewards him. He drinks himself sick. The next day they proceed on & meet up with Roose, Lady Walda &Ramsay‘s betrothed “Arya”

Davos faces Wyman Manderly with the Freys in audience. The Freys have spun their own tale about the Red Wedding &Robb Stark‘s role. Davos explains that Tommen is not Robert‘s child but he sent his proof awAy. Cersei has captives in KingsLanding, but Lady Wylla pushes back, they should fight on behalf of the Starks. But “Arya” is being married to Ramsay Bolton, she tells of Ramsay‘s misdeeds & is ousted. Davos is seized & threatened with death

The Shy Maid travels through the fog. The debate Garin‘s Curse, or greyscale that causes cracked calcified skin. Tyrion thinks of poisoning Griff. Tyrion reveals he knows the identity of Young Griff -saying his father Tywin laid down his body beside his sister‘s as a gift for the new King. Revealing himself in the process. They fight the stonemen, in the fight Tyrion is pulled under water unable to get free

The Wall will run out of food if they have to keep feeding Stannis‘s men &wildlings. Jon has no immediate solution so they cut back rations. Rattleshirt has been bound to Melisandre. Jon advises on battleplans, he draws the line at arming them. Stannis again implores Jon to take his fathers name &Winterfell. He declines. Jon send Stannis to the mountain clans for more men &after the ironmen at Deepwood Motte. Wildlings will stay at the Wall.

Xaro of the Thirteen propositions Dany. She needs his shops &trade with Qarth.He offers trades she can‘t make, but gives a gift of a fleet. With the condition that she leave for Westeros now.
Astapor needs her help to defend against Yunkai‘i she says they have to defend themselves.
The shops are solid, but there is the issue of what will happen to Meereen w/Dany gone. Westeros must wait.
Xaro leaves insulted, the ships left behind, war is declared

Davos arrives in White Harbor. He is hopeful that Lord Wyman hasn‘t picked a side until he sees a Warship with Lannister banners.
He overhears men talking about the other Kings -& Viserys & Rhaegar‘s baby & finally of Dany- but not of Stannis.
Deterred, but not willing to give up hope, he calls on Lord Wyman

Griff forces Tyrion into sobriety. But he finds other ways to amuse himself lusting after Speta Lenore, tumbling & playing games. He plays a game of cyvasse with the Halfmaester gambling for secrets. But still thinks of the wine as they reach Nymeria‘s palace &he thinks of Tysha

Yes, I do. After I read the A Song Of Ice And Fire series by George R.R. Martin in 2019, I learned my lesson. If I know a series is not finished now, I don‘t start it because after I finished his series, it ended on a cliffhanger. I was so mad when I figured out that the series wasn‘t finished so I‘m not putting myself through that again. I feel like I will forget the details in a series if I don‘t binge read it.

Jojen‘s health declines, Meera struggles with him as Bran, Hodor &Coldhands make for the cave. The wights attack. Summer &Coldhands take the brunt while Bran pulls himself away, but Hodor is in danger &Bran is in his skin, fighting as Hodor &helping Jojen. Saved by a girl with a torch, she leads them on, but the ranger must stay behind. Tangled in the weirwood is a pale lord who says Bran will never walk, but he will fly

In the dark dungeon eating rats, Reek has lost all sense of time when Lord Ramsay calls him from his cell. The other lords at the table realize who Reek was, the Stark‘s ward. He counts his missing fingers & toes as Ramsay shares news of his upcoming wedding to Arya & enlists Reek to come to fetch her.

Sons of the Harpy have killed nine of Dany‘s servants. she decides Meereen must defend itself & considers hostages &torture. She comforts Missandei, pines for Daario. Quaithe comes to her &warns of the pale mare, Kraken and Dark Flame, Lion and Griffen, the sun‘s son & the mummer‘s dragon
The people request fighting pits opened
She goes to see 2 of her dragons who have been chained down after the child‘s death, Drogon has flown off

Mance is brought forth, Jon‘s pleas for his life have been unheeded. Mance, along with the horn, is burned. Stannis &Melisandre make a show of power to the Freefolk, enticing them to “come in to the light”. Most do, though some run for the woods.
Later, Jon admires Val &reflects that he could have had her, Winterfell &his fathers name. He makes his rounds. Climbs into bed thinking this will be his lot until the end of his days.

I enjoyed reading this series back in 2019 when I first started watching the show. My mom already saw the show before I did but she watched it again with me. I finished the book series. It took me all year because I started in January and I was mad when I finished reading the last book because it ended on a cliffhanger. I got over it after I read the Lord Of The Rings trilogy and watched all of the movies after that.

Davos is brought before Godric Borrell, bound for White Harbor but ended up in Sisterton. He blames the storms but it was really betrayal. Salladhor Saan grew impatient with Stannis, cut his losses, cast Davos out.
Godric& Davos catch eachother up
Davos realizes he‘s running out of time to secure White Harbor for Stannis. He thinks of what to say to enlist Godric‘s help. Godric has his doubts & agrees to help but “if you lose you were never here”

When Tyrion awakes the litter has stopped &he is confronted by Haldon Halfmaester &Duck, he leaves with them. As they travel he sees the Wonders but has trouble escaping thoughts of Tywin.
They meet with Griff, he confesses who he is &that he Murdered Tywin (&his mother, &Joffrey) &hopes it pleases the queen. When Griff isn‘t pleased, he discusses the secrets he can tell about Cersei, the captains, the lords & earns his place on the ship.

Gilly comes to see Jon, he talks to her about Dalla &Mance‘s son. She begs Jon to save him, he says he can‘t but that SHE can. She cries that she will take both, but Jon says that won‘t work. He promises if Dalla‘s boy burns, her son will die too
He speaks with Sam, Sam &Aemon are being sent South as well while he repeats a mantra inspired by Aemon
He commands Slynt to Greyguard where wildlings climbed the Wall. Slynt refuses. Jon takes his head.

Quentyn Martell with Gerris Drinkwater are seeking passage to Meereen, pretending to be going to sell wine, concealing his true intent (to marry Dany)The captain of a stinking ship named Adventure tells them the slave trade is stopped &the cities are at war. Unable to find passage by sea, they consider traveling the “demon road”, Quentyn feels this would be too dangerous but is not ready to admit defeat. After much debate, an idea comes to Gerris

Illyrio tells Tyrion more about Dany as the travel through the flatlands. He is still untrusting that those close to Illyrio will keep his whereabouts a secret, but they drink &share stories of the past.

Bran is on Hodor‘s back as they traverse the frozen land. He has been spending most of the time inside Summer‘s mind, sometimes Hodor‘s too. Men are following them, Coldhands goes to deal with it, Meera doesn‘t trust him. Jojen is ill &growing weaker
In the cold that night, Bran slips into Summer &finds a pack feast on Black Brothers. When he awakes, Coldhands has returned with meat. He confronts Coldhands. But they have no choice but to continue

After a wolf dream, he goes to meet Stannis. Stark bannermen hesitate to join Stannis &he is furious after a rejection from Lyanna Mormont. Jon wonders if they would have joined Jon Stark, Lord of Winterfell but it‘s too late now. Jon explains that Mance‘s baby won‘t be king, wildlings don‘t have lines of succession. Tension rises when Jon refuses to give Stannis the forts. Melisandre relays her vague prophecies of Jon‘s fate, daggers in the dark.

Sons of the Harpy are becoming more bold &her dragons are growing wild
They bicker over how to address the Harpy. Hizdar enters to request the fighting pits be reopened, the city would get a tax payment but she declines
Townspeople come seeking justice for crimes committed. Finding a fair restitution is difficult. Others come blaming the dragons for deaths of their livestock with burnt bones, but 1 has the bones of a child

Tyrion is on the ship to the free cities after fleeing KingsLanding drinking heavily. Arriving in Pentos, he speaks with Illyrio the magister. He ponders if he should help Myrcella claim the crown or go to the Wall, but drinks & searches for where whores go. Illyrio confronts Tyrion about his self destructive behavior &tells him about their savior, the dragon with three heads.

Varamyr the warg is alone now after the defeat of the wildlings at the Wall, he had ran before the battle ended. He‘s lost all his beats except the wolves who are feasting on human meat. But he is starving
He remembers why he was given away, but then Thistle returns, “there are hundreds of them” instead of heeding her warning he inhabits her. She escapes his control &he returns as a wolf, sees them (not men, not prey) &Thistle‘s now pale blue eyes

Mostly because I took to much time between books and forgot major things this one scraped a 4. Maybe I‘ll reread one day and not leave so much time between books that I forget stuff.

So much better than the previous in this series. The Epilogue is definitely the most cliff-hangerish of the five and I can see why fans of the series are frustrated by the slothly manner in which GRRM cranks out material. We may never know how it all ends, and be left with the speculation of and alternate ending produce by the television production.

This has sat on my shelf in the hope that the author will finish the series. This seems unlikely in the near future... so decided to tackle this for both #booked2022 #adaptedforthesmallscreen and #chunksterchallenge2022. It took me 3 months longer than I initially expected owing to the fact that Martin constantly meanders and lost my attention at times. I will still continue reading the series (if any) but was at times disengaged with this one.

For Wednesday‘s #bookquote, I‘m sharing this quote from A Dance With Dragons by George R.R. Martin. This is my favorite quote from the A Song Of Ice And Fire book series. I read the book series and watched the tv show for the first time in 2019 and I really enjoyed it. The way the 5th book ended made me think another book was coming but I‘ve accepted that it might not happen. I‘ve also accepted that the author may not finish writing the series.

Some series continuations I‘d really like to get to before the end of the year.

This is SO true! What do you think? Books have brought me everywhere. Into the past, to the future, to different countries. I can experience so much for the cost of a library card.

I‘m about a fifth into the book so far, and already it‘s 💯 better than Feast of Crows. My only critique at this point is that sometimes it‘s difficult enough to keep track of the myriad of characters, but now GRRM is jumping around in the timeline as well.
