Sorority | Genevieve Sly Crane
Prep meets Girls in White Dresses in Genevieve Sly Cranes deliciously addictive, compulsively readable exploration of female friendship and coming of age that will appeal to anyone who has ever been curious about what goes on in a sorority house Margot is dead. Theres a rumor she died because she couldnt take the pressure of being a pledge. You may not ask what happened to her. Its not your business. But it wasnt a suicide, if youre wondering. Spring Fling will not be cancelled. The deposit is non-refundable. And Margot would have wanted the sisterhood to continue in her absence, if only to protect her sisters secrets: Shannon is the thinnest girl in the house (the other sisters hate her for it, but they know her sacrifice: she only uses the bathroom by the laundry room); Kyra has slept with twenty-nine boys since she started college (they are all different and all the same); Amanda is a virgin (her mincing gait and sloping posture give it away); and while half the sisters are too new to have known Margot, Deirdre remembers hershe always remembers. With a keen sense of character and unflinching, observant prose, Crane exposes the undercurrents of tension in a world where perfection comes at a cost and the best things in life are painfulif not impossibleto acquire: Beauty. A mothers love. And friendshipor at least the appearance of it.

This is a group of interconnected short stories about a sorority. Each girl gets a story. They are set before, during and after college. None of the stories are exceptional, two were great, most were mediocre. With the exception of a few girls, most of the characters were difficult to tell apart, and I kept getting them mixed up. I liked the dark sarcasm of the narrator. 2.5⭐️ #audiobook

ValPenny I like the idea of interconnected short stories - but it is very difficult to do well. 4y

Good. Once the story got going it was ok as it explored life on campus and how much Sorority life can take over your way of life.

The only thing that I didn't enjoy was the narrator ( I listened to the audiobook version of this) as she was very robotic.

If you have trigger issues that include: Eating issues, mental health including Self harm then this book is not for you. Also if you have an issue with lots of swearing then stay away.

There are a lot of things I didn‘t like about this and some I liked. As a member of a sorority, I feel like I am an “expert” on this subject 😂 Any time you have a hundred girls together there is going to be some drama; however, there are a LOT of great things that come from being in one too. I wish this book would have spent more time talking about the positives.

guinsgirlreads I‘ve been wanting to read this! 👏🏻 Which sorority?! 5y
Kappadeemom @guinsgirlreads Kappa Delta. I would rate this maybe a low 3 stars. Parts I liked and parts I didn‘t, but it‘s also short. 5y
DGRachel As a sorority girl myself, I think I‘ll have to pass on this one. I‘m so tired of negative press. Yes, there‘s the bad, but there‘s an awful lot of good that never gets discussed. 5y
Kappadeemom @DGRachel I agree! I work in non-profit because I found my love for philanthropy in college 😍 5y

LitandLeisure Nice review. Is it a collection of short stories? 6y
Wellreadhead @LitandLeisure Thanks! Sort of. Each chapter focuses on one of the sisters lives, so you can read them as individual stories really. 6y

This was an interesting book. It read like short stories that were connected by the theme of the sorority. It was definitely a dark read and there were some interesting points in the book. I felt like it was all just too vague. The author didn‘t give enough to really follow what the actual story was. I would have liked this more if it had been developed better.

Interesting book. It‘s so mediocre, it‘s good. I loved the narration! (I think that‘s what makes this a pick.)

The book reads almost as short stories. The girls, in turn, have chapters devoted to the own lives or their reaction to sorority sister Margot‘s sudden death. There‘s something about the way the book unfolded that drew me in, but the plot is just okay. 3.5⭐️

I grabbed this arc at work last week mainly out of curiosity. We‘ll see when I get around to it if it‘s any good.

DGRachel As a member of a sorority, something tells me I need to skip this one. They aren‘t perfect, but I‘m so tired of stereotypes and criticism. 😔 6y
