Does anyone else think about the books they would want with them if they were stranded on a desert island or is that just me? Here‘s the 10 I would want. I think 10 is a good number - you get some variety but you also have to choose. What would you choose? 🏝#desertislandbooks

monalyisha 🖤 American Gods 6y
emtobiasz 100% with you on the Calvino. I need to reread His Dark Materials... 6y

My first three choices are always pretty stable for this question and then anything goes for the last two!

saresmoore Think I need to read Thud! ASAP. 6y
Moray_Reads @saresmoore I love Discworld, it felt that everything came together perfectly in this one. This and Night Watch are probably my favourites 6y
saresmoore I agree about Night Watch & I also really loved Mort. I‘m slowly getting to most of them in order (though I‘ve meandered a bit), so next up is The Wyrd Sisters. I don‘t know how much connection there is, but I plan to revisit Macbeth, first. 6y
Moray_Reads @saresmoore the Witches are usually based around other stories, Shakespeare, fairy tales, Phantom of the Opera, it's always fun to spot the connections. And there's Granny and Nanny, of course ❤️ 6y
jillrhudy Lord of the Rings, The Woman in White, and Alice in Wonderland never seem to get old for me. So maybe they never would? 6y

It‘s National Book Lovers Day so it seemed the perfect time to ask this very difficult question!! #desertislandbooks

DrexEdit So hard to pick just 5! My first book would be pride and prejudice. Then maybe American Gods by Neil Gaiman. Then maybe a couple of chunksters or experimental writing like House Of Leaves or Infinite Jest or 1Q84; depends on what's on hand. If I have any slots left I might pick another classic, like Catcher in the Rye or Anna Karenina. 6y
Amandajoy Can I take one of those collections of all of Jane Austen‘s books as one pick? The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear, To Kill a Mockingbird, and something by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche, possibly Half a Yellow Sun since I haven‘t read it yet, and a big, juicy biography of an interesting historical figure. This list is subject to change 🤓 6y
wanderinglynn It‘s too hard to choose. 😳🤯 I‘d probably drown from indecision. 6y

Just ONE!!! And a series DOESN'T count.

It would have to be Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks for me.

TrishB The Stand - SK 6y
Ddzmini That‘s a good one 6y
Ddzmini Either The Basic Writing‘s of C. G. Jung or The Story of Psychology 6y

I've been thinking about this all week...
1. The Waves by Virginia Woolf
2. Artful by Ali Smith
3. The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
4. The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien
5. The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov
It's horrifying to think of all the others I want to add...

1. Stephen King—can you imagine sitting around a fire at night in the dark, listening to him spin his tales? Or Scott Hawkins—I‘d LOVE to get a glimpse into his brain! There‘s gotta be some wild stuff going on in there!
2. Elton John—I never get tired of his music. Or Bette Midler—she would be hilarious as well as musical.
3. I‘m an ardent Pepper, so I guess I‘ll go with Dr. Pepper.
#trivialthursday

GarthRanzz We were talking earlier about having King as our camp counsellor and sitting around the campfire, roasting marshmallows, while he spun tales. I‘d be the very definition of a happy camper. 7y
Jerdencon I said Dr. pepper too! 😀 7y
