I thought this would be much harder than it actually once. As soon as I thought about it, my answer was obvious:

1) Agatha Christie
2) L.M. Montgomery
3) Michael Crichton

Jaimelire Good choices! 4y
Sweettartlaura 😮 ... 🤔 4y
BookmarkTavern Those are all excellent choices! 4y

Aargh! No, only 3?!? Err I'll go with Ian Irvine to escape into the amazing worlds he creates, Charles Dickens so I can rediscover his books again and Jane Green for some lighter reads (Jemima J will always be a fav)

1. Arthur Conan Doyle
2. Lee Childs
3. Robert Heinlein

I'd also like all of James Patterson's books. I'd need something to build bonfires with lol.

Itchyfeetreader Elinor m Brent dyer (there is a LOT and they are my comfort read) , Louise penny (I‘ve been meaning to get to them for forever and a desert island seems as good a time as ever) and the. Maybe Dickens or Tolstoy ? 4y

I do not even remember where I first saw this, but I know I wanted to share it here anyway!

I would probably pick JRR Tolkien, Tamora Pierce, and Terry Pratchett. What about you?

#desertislandbooks

wanderinglynn That‘s a hard question! I‘d probably pick Terry Pratchett too, along with Neil Gaiman, and JD Robb. 4y
erinachu Can I say George R.R. Martin because I would at least get a new book every 10 years? 😂 also J.K Rowling and Stephen King 4y
BookmarkTavern @wanderinglynn Ah! Gaiman! That‘s an excellent choice too! @erinachu LOL Totally! 😂 4y

#desertislandbooks

Eight of my chosen titles are longtime favorites. The last two are wildcard books, which I‘ve never read. I know, I know. It‘s risky! What if I don‘t like them? But I think I need the anticipation & hope that comes from the unknown. If I‘d only put one unread book on the list, I think I‘d place too much importance on it. It might be too riddled with pressure to be enjoyable. With two, the weight can be shared.

monalyisha @Jess_Franzino I chose one of the books you gifted me for my #desertislandbooks list! I still haven‘t read it but I genuinely expect to love it. 6y
BarbaraJean Such a great list! Number 3 and 5-8—😍 (edited) 6y

Craftylikefox Whenever I‘m in a bookstore I always pick up, We Have Always Lived in The Castle , but then I end putting back. One these days I would like to read it. LOVE # 2 and 3 😊 6y
Amandajoy Which two are the ones you haven‘t read? 6y
monalyisha @Amandajoy The last two! The Dovekeepers (I love Alice Hoffman but have yet to read this particular title), & Bitter Greens (which is *wholly* new to me but seems promising). I tried to choose a couple that were a little longer in length for the last two. 😉 6y
monalyisha Thanks @BarbaraJean & @Craftylikefox! I deliberated very carefully. 🤔🤓 6y
monalyisha @Craftylikefox I hesitated for a split second to put two by the same author on my list but...it‘s well-deserved. 6y
Craftylikefox I love Neil Gaiman‘s works and both of those are absolutely worth it 😊 If your going to be stuck on an island you can have as many books from the same author as you enjoy 😊 6y
Craftylikefox Funny side note Ocean at The End of the Lane had me obsessing over blackberry jam. 6y
ladyneverwhere The Dovekeepers is so great! I love anything by Alice Hoffman and it's still one of my favorites by her. 6y
monalyisha @ladyneverwhere I love her, too. A former coworker, who was the book-buyer for the little independent bookstore where I worked — & my reading muse, also loved AH & said “The Dovekeepers” was her favorite. She was instrumental in shaping much of my post-college reading taste. So, I‘ve got high hopes. 🤞🏻 6y
monalyisha @Craftylikefox Neil Gaiman sometimes does weird things to you! I get it. 😆 “Anansi Boys” had me talking to spiders for... well, I don‘t know that I‘ve really stopped. So, for forever, maybe. 😅 6y

Does anyone else think about the books they would want with them if they were stranded on a desert island or is that just me? Here‘s the 10 I would want. I think 10 is a good number - you get some variety but you also have to choose. What would you choose? 🏝#desertislandbooks

monalyisha 🖤 American Gods 6y
emtobiasz 100% with you on the Calvino. I need to reread His Dark Materials... 6y

It‘s National Book Lovers Day so it seemed the perfect time to ask this very difficult question!! #desertislandbooks

DrexEdit So hard to pick just 5! My first book would be pride and prejudice. Then maybe American Gods by Neil Gaiman. Then maybe a couple of chunksters or experimental writing like House Of Leaves or Infinite Jest or 1Q84; depends on what's on hand. If I have any slots left I might pick another classic, like Catcher in the Rye or Anna Karenina. 6y
Amandajoy Can I take one of those collections of all of Jane Austen‘s books as one pick? The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear, To Kill a Mockingbird, and something by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche, possibly Half a Yellow Sun since I haven‘t read it yet, and a big, juicy biography of an interesting historical figure. This list is subject to change 🤓 6y
wanderinglynn It‘s too hard to choose. 😳🤯 I‘d probably drown from indecision. 6y
