Brick Shakespeare
Brick Shakespeare: The Tragedies-Hamlet, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and Julius Caesar | Monica Sweeney, John McCann, Becky Thomas
3 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
Enjoy four of Shakespeares tragedies told with LEGO bricks. Here are Hamlet, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, and Julius Caesar enacted scene by scene, captioned by excerpts from the plays. Flip through one thousand color photographs as you enjoy Shakespeares iconic poetry and marvel at what can be done with the worlds most popular childrens toy. Watch the brick Hamlet give his famous To be or not to be soliloquy, and feel brick Ophelias grief as she meets her watery end. Lady Macbeth in brick form brings new terror to Out, out, damn spot! and brick Romeo and Juliet are no less star-crossed for being rectangular and plastic. The warm familiarity of bricks lends levity to Shakespeares tragedies while remaining true to his original language. The ideal book for Shakespeare enthusiasts, as well as a fun way to introduce children to Shakespeares masterpieces, this book employs Shakespeares original, characteristic language in abridged form. Though the language stays true to its origins, the unique format of these well-known tragedies will give readers a new way to enjoy one of the most popular playwrights in history.

Pickpick

First off, the book Brick Shakespeare, is a collection of some of Shakespeare's greatest hits put into a Lego styled child-friendly book, which includes all of the great tragedies. The collection's recurring motif, tragedy, works very well with the books images, as you can feel the feelings of the characters in each scene! I also loved how the less important scenes were taken out and made into summaries, would 10/10 recommend this book to anyone!

MissYaremcio Great work Tristen! Do you think we should have used this as a supplemental text for our Shakespeare?? I would have loved a few more details on the summary but overall well done. 5.5/6 5y
