Jeeves and the Wedding Bells | Sebastian Faulks
post image
Pickpick

I bought this at the amazing #dauntbooks in London and only just got around to it...erm two years later. 😬 I was on the most epic slump of all time. Making up for lost time though! This book was exactly as silly as it should have been, with charmingly accurate characterization and wonderfully well done voices. A bit of fun always hits the spot!

Pickpick

Read some Jeeves books, but I am by no means a buff. As far as I can tell, Faulks has done a good job of recreating the writing style, although it amused me that the great war crept in considering what he is famous for. A bit too much cricket for me, but then any cricket is too much cricket for me!

#Aprella #day8 #Homage Catching up again on this months challenge, I suck at deadlines! Ok, I think the “cozy Crime” series of today are an homage to the golden age of crime writing. Authors like Joseph Jefferson Farjeon, Dame Ngaio Marsh, Dorothy L Sayers, Josephine Tey & of course, the one & only Dame Agatha Christie were inspiration to the pictured authors. I‘ve been a lifelong Dame Agatha fan & love the series above as much #christiecrimeclub

emilyhaldi I love this. I still have never read Agatha Christie but she‘s on my list! Would her books be considered "cozy mysteries"? 6y
Lizpixie @emilyhaldi she‘s part of the “Golden Age Of Crime” which shares a lot with cozy‘s, but they‘re more of a serious version, not so fluffy & humorous as most cozy‘s are. You really should read her books, they‘re fantastic! I‘d start with 6y
Cinfhen Love this collage 💕 6y

emilyhaldi Good to know! I tried Kerry Greenwood earlier this year and while the book was well-done, I decided cozy just isn‘t for me. But Christie might be more my speed! 6y
Mdargusch Christie is definitely not as fluffy as most cozy writers @emilyhaldi - you have to read at least one! (edited) 6y
kspenmoll Just finished reading a book published in 1878 that was read to Agatha Christie at Age 8 & whom she bases her habit on telling the story through dialogue on the the book/ author, Anna Katherine Green. Poirot mentions the book in The Clocks. The novel was was the assigned reading for Yale Law students. Worth a read, social & class issues in NYC at the time. 6y
kspenmoll Took information from introduction to the book by Michael Sims 6y
Reviewsbylola I enjoyed the first Phryne Fisher! A lot of the authors you listed are ones I‘ve been meaning to read. 6y

The Annotated Emma | Jane Austen, David M. Shapard

#Aperella I had a busy weekend & missed 2 musical prompts so today, I'm attempting to do 3 prompts in one post.

When I hear #Supermodel I immediately think of the Jill Sobule song in Clueless rather than the SZA one. Clueless of course is an excellent #Homage to Jane Austen's Emma & although there wasn't a character based on her in Clueless, Emma's neighbor, Miss Bates, NEVER gets #TiredOfTalking.

And that is how you do it. (Cue 🎤drop...)🤣

Mdargusch Wow! Nice job!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 6y

Sanctuary | Robert Edric

I‘m quite powerless when it comes to resisting any sort of fictional #Homage to the Brontës. ?

Sanctuary tells the (first person) story of the disgraced Branwell Brontë‘s return to Haworth and his final months with his family. I hope it‘s good! ??

#Aprella

emilyhaldi Oooohhhh I hope its good too!!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻 6y
Reviewsbylola Omg please start a stack of all the books I‘m insisting you read right away and put this one at the top. 😂 6y

LeahBergen @Melissa_J No, but I have a hardcover of it sitting in one of my online shopping carts 😂. It‘s the British title, though 6y
LeahBergen @Melissa_J Have you read any of Jude Morgan‘s regency-era books? They‘re really good! 6y
LeahBergen @emilyhaldi I hope so! I don‘t want to disappoint @Reviewsbylola 😆 6y
Melissa_J I have not! Which are you favourites? 6y
batsy Oooh! Sounds interesting. 6y
Mdargusch This sounds great! 6y
Sophoclessweetheart I am too! I‘ve got my eye on The Glass Town Game and one Nelly Dean. Also, Jane Steele! I‘m a sucker for a retelling x 6y
LeahBergen @Melissa_J I really liked all three that I read. Try 6y
LeahBergen @batsy @Mdargusch It does, doesn‘t it?? 6y
LeahBergen @Wanderingwithwords Oh! Jane Steele is waiting on my shelf, too. 😆 6y

Arcadia: A novel | Iain Pears
post image

This novel feels like an #homage to Shakespeare and story telling, history and science. It is filled with literary references and a great love for stories, which makes it a perfect book for book lovers 📖

#Aprella

Reviewsbylola I will have to look into this one. It sounds good! 6y
emilyhaldi I've thought about buying this a couple times but the fantasy part scares me 😬 6y
Kalalalatja @Reviewsbylola @emilyhaldi @Mdargusch the fantasy element is really quite small. There‘s some travel between worlds, and one of those worlds are dystopian, but there are no magic, dragons, or anything else high fantasy. If you could read Outlander Emily, I‘m sure you can read this 👍 6y
emilyhaldi Lol @Kalalalatja Outlander is really opening my worldview!!!! 👏🏻😆 6y
