Emma Chase, New York Times bestselling author of the Tangled series, returns with the first installment of the Legal Briefs series!A Washington, DC, defense attorney, Stanton Shaw keeps his head cool, his questions sharp, and his arguments irrefutable. They don’t call him the Jury Charmer for nothing—with his southern drawl, disarming smile, and captivating green eyes, he’s a hard man to say no to. Men want to be him, and women want to be thoroughly cross examined by him. Stanton’s a man with a plan. And for a while, life was going according to that plan. Until the day he receives an invitation to the wedding of his high school sweetheart, the mother of his beloved ten-year-old daughter. Jenny is getting married—to someone who isn’t him. That's definitely not part of the plan. *** Sofia Santos is a city-raised, no-nonsense litigator who plans to become the most revered criminal defense attorney in the country. She doesn’t have time for relationships or distractions. But when Stanton, her "friend with mind-blowing benefits," begs her for help, she finds herself out of her element, out of her depth, and obviously out of her mind. Because she agrees to go with him to The-Middle-Of-Nowhere, Mississippi, to do all she can to help Stanton win back the woman he loves. Her head tells her she's crazy...and her heart says something else entirely. What happens when you mix a one-stop-light town, two professional arguers, a homecoming queen, four big brothers, some Jimmy Dean sausage, and a gun-toting Nana? The Bourbon flows, passions rise, and even the best-laid plans get overruled by the desires of the heart.

I don't know if it is the mood I'm in, but five chapters in and I can't really get into this book. DNFing, at least for now.

I enjoy every bits in this 📚 although some might pissed with Stanton. He‘s so called sleeping with ow, Sophia, yet he‘s declaring his 💕 for Jenny. His daughter‘s Mother. But the 📚 did brought me laughter and tears and it‘s steamy too.. So..... if I don‘t mind he‘s an asshole, u may wanna read this. #romance #emmachase #contemporaryromance

I have been at my new job for a month now and just discovered this amazing local coffee shop next to my office building. Their lattes are amazing and it's a great place to take my lunch hour and enjoying a little reading.

Mdargusch Fun! You‘re are so lucky! 6y

Mehso-so

Stanton and Jenny fall in love as teenagers and have a baby before graduating high school. Stanton leaves to go to college and law school and 11 years later he and Jenny still have a weird don't ask, don't tell long distance relationship that is just plain weird. And then there's Sofia who is Stanton's colleague with benefits. A couple other colleagues were introduced so while I didn't love it I did put the next on hold through Overdrive.

Reading this today because we have two and a half hours in the car after visiting our son at college. It helps to pass the time and ignore the awful music my husband is listening to on the satellite radio.

3/3.5 stars, fun, sexy start to a series. Stanton and Sophia are casually hooking up after work, but neither of them realize that they love each other until it's almost too late. Nice setting too, from D.C. to rural Missouri. Looking forward to the next one! #romantsy

Reecaspieces I enjoyed this as well...pretty funny book. The whole series is cute 7y

It is hot as balls out there today! 96 degrees, humidity and dew point over 50% - yuck! I worked until 1, ran three errands, and by the time I got home and hauled everything in, I was a sweaty, cranky mess.
Just had breakfast (at 2:30 pm), am in pajamas, watching 30 Rock, and reading this surprisingly fun romance recommended by Sarah MacLean! (Well, she rec'd the 3rd in the series but I have to start w #1!)
Hope everyone is staying cool today!

saresmoore I spy some gorgeous bookshelves! 7y

Can there never, ever be another male protagonist who drives home drunk? And after minor protests is rewarded with a blow job? No, your truck doesn't "know the way".

There is also a lot of talk about skanky girls.

Some unfortunately major issues in what has so far been a cute, funny romance with great characters and dialogue.

Best part of insomnia is finishing up good books. Worst part? Going to work tomorrow.

LauraBrook Very true! 8y
