#Discworld

Really enjoyed my reread. The audio is fantastic. The jingle for the footnotes worked really well, the story held up and I am looking forward to the discussion next month.

What # are we using for this read? Is there an easy way to tag everyone?

Just a friendly reminder that we are setting off on the second round around the #Discworld today with #Sourcery.

Looking forward to our discussion next month!

PS: this book might work for some of the #52bookclub24 bonus prompts for April - I'm definitely using it for "desert you"

BookmarkTavern Yay! I‘m so excited! (edited) 1w
TheSpineView @julesG That happens some times. 1w
Deblovestoread Sometimes it doesn‘t want to play nice. I‘m very excited as a first time reader of these books. 💜🧙💜 1w
BookWrym I have hit the audiobook already and the narration is great. Read by Colin Morgan, Bill Nighy & Peter Serafinowicz. The footnotes have their own little jingle and I am loving it. Having previously read the paperbacks I am finding audio a delightful way to revisit. Plans for this read along will be whatever format I can my hands on. 1w
julesG @BookWrym Same here. I previously listened to the Nigel Planer narration, but have the new one queued up for this round. 1w
TheAromaofBooks Yay!! This will be my first time reading a Pratchett book. I'm so interested to try out his writing!! 1w
willaful D'oh! I thought the discussion was this month and just finished it. I hope I remember something to discuss. 😂 7d
julesG @willaful I'm sure you will. 😂 7d
rretzler @willaful I finished it on the date we were to have started! I had totally forgotten what quick and easy reads these were. 4d
rretzler @BookWrym Also loving that footnote jingle! I wish ALL audiobooks had that! 4d

Chrissyreadit I‘ve not read any Discworld books- should i read The Color of Magic first? 3w
julesG @Chrissyreadit No. Pratchett himself said to start with Sourcery and read the first two novels later when you know your way around the Discworld a bit. 3w
Chrissyreadit ok- ordering now. 3w

Repost for @julesG

Dear #OokBOokClub-ers,

I am proposing a #Discworld re-read based on the above reading guide. #SirTerryPratchett himself suggested starting with Sourcery, so that's what I'd suggest too.

I can draw up a reading schedule.

Your thoughts?

Let me know if you want to be tagged in future postings.

julesG @kwmg40 Great!!! 3w

Soubhiville Wow that‘s confusing! I probably won‘t reread right now, but if you keep tagging me I might occasionally feel like picking up what you‘re reading. 🙂 3w
BookmarkTavern Yes! I love this idea! 💖💖💖 3w
rretzler Absolutely, I‘m trying to read them all for the first time, so a reread of some and an initial read for others is just what I need to keep me motivated and on track! Thanks for organizing! 3w
peanutnine Could you tag me for this? I've always wanted to read Discworld but never know where to even begin. A readalong with y'all sounds perfect 3w

julesG @BookWrym Glad to have you. 3w
BarbaraJean I‘m definitely interested! I‘ve only read Mort and the Tiffany Aching books, so I‘d love to join a buddy read and work through Discworld more comprehensively. 3w
julesG @BarbaraJean 🎉🎉 3w
julesG @LitsyEvents - would you repost this please? 3w
Marmie7 I would definitely be in for a few of them. I followed the last read-along but wasn't able to read them all. 3w

Thank you all, dear #OokBOokClub-ers!

We've read our way through the #PratchettVerse. It was a pleasure hosting the #ReadAlong and discussing the books with you.

Thank you to @TricksyTails for starting the #EpicBuddyread. I took over hosting in the autumn of 2018 (thank you, @DGRachel, for helping me find my feet) and I'm sure to miss my regular calendar alarms reminding me to send off the next #OokBOokClub posts.

What are we reading next?

willaful Start over? 😁 1mo
julesG @willaful Definitely an option. 1mo
See All 19 Comments
kwmg40 I would love starting over, as I joined this buddy read late and never caught up. I‘ve finished about a third of the books. However, I‘d totally understand the rest of the group wanting to move on and do something new! 1mo
TheSpineView I would like to choose another author. However, I did miss a lot because I went down several rabbit holes. 1mo
kwmg40 Another author would be fine with me, but if we do end up rereading Pratchett's books, maybe we can start with a collection (such as City Watch or Witches) instead of reading through all the books in publication order? 1mo
julesG @kwmg40 I like that idea of reading the collections. But I'm also up for a new author, @TheSpineView. 1mo
BookmarkTavern I‘d love either way! This has been an utter delight! 1mo
julesG @BookmarkTavern @TheSpineView @kwmg40 @willaful - Re: re-reading Pratchett -- I'd want to do Discworld collections. I'm not very keen on (re-)reading The Long Earth series, but would be up to re-read the children's books (Carpet People, Maurice, etc.). Re: different author, my thoughts -- a) it should be an author with at least 12 books under their belt to get us through a year at least, b) it should be "light" reading, c) ⬇️ 1mo
julesG c) books should be easy to access, neither of us wants to comb through archives or spend lots of money on collectors' copies, d) I'm open to suggestions 1mo
TheSpineView @julesG As a reread are you thinking an author in the same vein? Like Neil Gaiman? 1mo
julesG @TheSpineView Gaiman came to mind, but he has some doorstoppers (American Gods). Also thought Jasper Fforde and Ben Aaronovitch. Jodi Taylor might work too. Further Chesterton and Wodehouse, who were both influences for Pratchett. 1mo
julesG And if we stick to a Pratchett re-read then I'd want to do The Witches, Death, The Watch,... 1mo
kwmg40 If we're going outside the fantasy genre, Chesterton and Wodehouse would be OK with me. Within fantasy, maybe Martha Wells or Seanan McGuire (who also writes as Mira Grant)? Their works aren't necessarily “light“ as in humorous but they tend to be quick to read and there are lots of novella-length works. 1mo
kwmg40 If we stay with Pratchett, my top choices would be City Watch or Industrial as collections, as I have the most gaps in those collections, but any would be fine with me. 1mo
SconsinBookyBadger Please tag me for the next buddy reads whichever direction it leads to a re-read or different author. I fell behind on this one and regret has been nagging at me lately. 1mo
julesG @SconsinBookyBadger I know that feeling. Will tag you. 1mo
rretzler I have no idea how I missed this until it was over. I guess partially because I haven‘t been active in a couple of years, but I wish I had some upon it before now! Please tag me if you do something else. 1mo
julesG @rretzler Will do! 1mo

julesG I enjoyed Rob Wilkins' sense of humour, which might not come as a surprise. He loved Pratchett's books already before he worked with him. And, I'm sure, some of Pratchett's wit certainly rubbed off over the years. 1mo
julesG Do you have favourite anecdotes about Pratchett? 1mo
See All 6 Comments
willaful Yes, I'm finding it more entertaining than I expected. (But perhaps should hve expected.) 1mo
BookmarkTavern I‘m not quite finished yet, but listening to the stories has been so lovely. Hearing how people and places shaped him. Also, I would have loved to see how he ran a D&D campaign. My mind cannot imagine how awesome it must have been. 💕 1mo
willaful I'm still way behind -- making an effort to finish by the end of the month -- but the chapter on Terry's wedding has tears prickling my eyes. So sweet! (And reminds me of my own husband, who was 18 when we met and also become “the most married person you were ever likely to meet.“) 4w

Here we are, #OokBOokClub-ers, our last #Buddyread book. Can you believe that we started this #SirTerryPratchett #EpicBuddyread in February 2018? Five years later and I am ready to re-read some of my favourites again.
Looking forward to our discussion next month!
Happy reading!
