I was really excited to start this one after reading Three Parts Dead, but it took me forever to get through it. Basically, the first thing the protagonist does is decide to risk his life for this obnoxious woman he just met because... I guess she's pretty?
The romance doesn't really improve from there.
I liked the Mesoamerican worldbuilding and found the plot about culture clash and long planned revenge much more interesting.

Caleb is a risk manager for Red King Consolidated, and too many things are going wrong right before a huge merger. Including sabotage possibly caused by his estranged father.

I didn‘t really connect with any of the characters, and the obsessive “instalove” between Caleb and Mal was kind of frustrating and distracting.

But I really love this world and the magic, and the ending was so hopeful. I‘m looking forward to the next one. 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

Well, #audiomoving my sister early isn‘t a super way to spend the weekend directly after the governor encourages more strict stay at home policies.

But better to get it done now than wait until next week. And I got some listening done going up and down all those steps with lots of heavy boxes!

(I hurt so much now! 😂)

I forgot to post yesterday‘s #KeepLitsyPositive, so here it is now! In times of crisis and self isolation, it‘s the perfect time to do some #audiobaking.

Making some peanut butter blossom cookies! And finally make a start on my #DoubleSpin #BookSpin book, @TheAromaofBooks ! I‘m not going to finish it this month, but I‘ve started!

TheAromaofBooks Do let me know whenever you finish and I will still give you credit. Also, I'll give you bonus credit if you send me some of your cookies. 😂 5y

Another fun book in a fascinating world that Squidapus always wants to know more about. Basically a risk assessor at a magical firm has to figure out problems that are arising right before a big company merger. I will say Squidapus liked the previous one better but this was still good. The main character wasn't as strong and the plot was obvious a mile away with an ending that wrapped up a little too well for a story about sacrifices. Really fun.

shanaqui I really need to read this series! I read the first book a while ago, but I don't remember it well enough... 5y
Squidapus @shanaqui They're not amazing but they're extremely solid books with a unique world that doesn't fall into pulpy-ness. Good representation too as I think there are women of color main characters in both. Actually most people are non-white in the second. 5y

The second book in the Craft Sequence (both chronologically and in publication order) did not wow me the way the first one did. I blame a far less compelling lead character -- I just didn't care about Caleb, and found him generally pretty annoying. I still love the world and I'm looking forward to reading the next installment, which hopefully will grab me the way Three Parts Dead did. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I usually stick to horror in October, but I was looking for something different and decided it was time to go back to the Craft Sequence.

If you want a story where two factions are at war and one side wins to create a perfect utopia, do not read this book. If you want a story where survivors of both sides of the battle struggle with the trauma and horror left behind after an epic battle between magic and gods while building a system that protects humanity without costing more loss and sorrow, then read this book.

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Love the Craft Sequence!!! 6y

I didn‘t dig this one quite as much as the two Tara Abernathy ones I read first, but I like how Gladstone is building out his world. This one seems set in a South American inspired nation occupied by corporate interests, and I think it did some great stuff with its setting. Definitely makes bits of Four Roads Cross sadder, and has some strong character work, even if the central conflict didn‘t resolve as well as I‘d hoped.

Another great entry in the Craft Sequence. I'm still loving these books and am excited for the next one (though I'm taking a break to read the next book in the Veil Knight series first😀).

I can't decide!! So I'm going with the Craft Sequence by Max Gladstone and Brandon Sanderson's overarching Cosmere universe which contains a few different series :) #24in48 #CheaterCheaterPumpkinEater

Varshitha Have you read Mistborn?? 8y
MrBook How many pages are those Sanderson tomes?! 😳 8y
KtheBookwyrm @Varshitha I've read all the mistborn novels up to bands of mourning. @MrBook the stormlight archive ones are well over a thousand pages I believe. They're pretty massive 8y

Varshitha How is it.? I am meaning to start them.. 8y
KtheBookwyrm I have loved every Brandon Sanderson novel I've ever read. I read elantris first and then the original mistborn trilogy. Loved it. Great characters, a bit of twistiness to keep you on your toes. The magic systems he creates are wonderful. 100% recommend to everyone. As well as the craft sequence by Gladstone. Always trying to get people to read them. 8y
Varshitha Thank you,, I will pick it up soon.. 8y

I think the less I say about this book, the better. But it is really good. I think I'm beginning to see the threads of a Craft Sequence story arc. And I'm beyond interested to see where Gladstone goes next in this world.

Of course, I'm loving this book, second in the Craft Sequence. It has more romance elements than the last, and a thrilling new sport. #madeforme
