Started another mystery series, these ones set in medieval England. Loved Brother Cadfael, he's a nice misture of pragmatic, worldly and devout. Also, the medieval monk drama was fun!

First book finished fot #JoyousJanuary

Starting a Discworld re-read with the very first book. It might not be the best, but it's still a lot of fun, brimming with clever ideas, and I have a soft spot for cowardly, failed wizard Rincewind.

“On the fine, bright morning in early May when the whole sensational affair of the Gwytherin relics may properly be considered to have begun, Brother Cadfael had been up long before Prime, pricking out cabbage seedlings before the day was aired, and his thoughts were all on birth, growth and fertility, not at all on graves and reliquaries and violent deaths, whether of saints, sinners or ordinary decent, fallible men like himself.”

My first favourite book of the year 💖💖💖 Alexia and Connall continue to be a great couple, there's a clever mistery, fun new characters and bits of interesting, expanding worl building.

And what an ending!

Nice short story collection. Parker Pyne is an interesting detective. About half the stories deal with unusual problems - they're my favorites.

Finally finished my October #bookspin. I loved the worldbuilding and the atmosphere, didn't mind the slow pace, although it lagged in the middle. That was also when vampire Matthew was at his most controlling and possessive and witch Diana at her most tell, don't show, about how sturbon and brave she is. But things do pick up at the end, with a bunch of conspirators coming together and the haunted Bishop house being the best house.

This is a very good introduction to genes: what they are, what they do, how they it, how they shape us. It's easy to read and to understand. It's probably a bit outdated in places, though.

I don't really know what to say about this book, except that I love it. It's slow going, and not much happens, but I loved the characters, the setting and the writing. There's an underground library, lots of stories within the story and the starless sea itself. And the ending, it's very open, but I still found it satisfying. It's definetely my favourite book of the year. 💖💖💖🐝

The Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest know narrative story - it was first inscribed in clay tablets over 4000 thousand years ago. Although the style in which it is written can feel foreign, there's nothing foreign about the deep relationship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu or the despair Gilgamesh feels when his friend dies.
