What stood out more for me was the celebration of life, magic, and beauty as the young boy painstakingly crafted this gorgeous boat, since clearly “It‘s a good day for sailing.” #Ship

This book is beautifully illustrated. A little boy falls asleep and goes in search of his grandfather, and where the ocean meets the sky. He will find a travel guide in the golden fish, and spend his night high in the air among the whales. This story is all about the illustrations and imagination. It serves its purpose, and makes a lasting memory.

pickThis was an achingly beautiful and magical book. The illustrations just sweep you away in the story of a boy trying to follow his grandfathers words. Culture, magic, and love all wrapped together in a beautiful package.
pickGorgeous imagery and a sweet story combine into a lovely picture book. Full of fantastical elements, but ultimately about missing someone you love, it hits a perfect tone.
pickA wondrous dreamland journey through sea and sky, taken by a small Asian boy in remembrance of his grandfather. The gorgeous illustrations can be examined endlessly. Above, amid submarines, sampans, pirate ships, zeppelins & whales, the boy‘s tiny vessel is hard to find (see arrow). Grandfather‘s wispy moustache is echoed in the whiskers of the giant carp, and both faces merge as the man in the moon. Nostalgic & magical, with a comforting ending.
The art in this #Canadian #picturebook is outstanding.
He followed the golden fish to the Library Islands,

Fantastic illustrations, as always, but the kid and I were kinda “meh” in the story. Their books are worth looking through just for the art. Maybe they should move to wordless?
