A Lady in the Smoke: A Victorian Mystery | 
so-soHistorical romantic suspense, this was certainly entertaining and I flew through it. There were many interesting historical details about railroads and the medical profession in mid-19th cent England, and Elizabeth was a likeable protagonist. That being said, I didn't find her believable to the time period - it stretched plausibility to the point of taking me out of the story, and, as a result, I found the ending overly tidy and unsatisfactory.
pickI enjoyed this one! Maybe a bit slow in spots, but well-plotted and contained some interesting historical info on Victorian England's railway surgeons (they were news to me) and specific injuries sustained during crashes and how they were treated. Especially impressed as this was a debut novel. Would definitely read her again. #romantsy #osrbc

pickI like my mystery with a significant dose of history, and this has it. Victorian railways, 19th century medical practices, some interesting observations about women's financial rights. There's a romance that's essential to the plot but doesn't overwhelm it. Interesting characters. Well written. I really enjoyed this.

Given that I have a cold, it was fortuitous that we had planned pasta e fagiioli for tonight's dinner. I started this book this afternoon, but given that two of our alma maters (Penn State and Ohio State) are playing football this evening, there will be no more reading tonight😄 At least they aren't playing each other again.
