Homemade pasta, mussels, and Alfredo prepared while listening to the end of this one. Several things I didn‘t care for, primarily that this world‘s hook is that the “gifted” young girls are basically doing emotional labor as slaves from the time their gift is discovered until they‘re killed for not using it properly to protect their sovereign. Formulaic love triangle, plot had no urgency. I think I need to get away from YA SF/F on audio for a bit.

esurient Well dang, now I'm really hungry *and* want a new book to read. 7y
kgriffith @esurient Ha! Well, I do have leftovers, but not sure if you‘re close enough for me to share :) 7y

What in the world is this emotionally and physically abusive garbage!?! Maybe it gets better after but I'm about 60% in and just cannot take it anymore! There doesn't appear to be any analysis of the abuse, the characters have just gotten annoying and repetitive while nothing seems to happen while using the stupid love triangle with brothers trope. So done!

wellreadredhead @FireHeartRattlerOfStars Isn't this one of the books you just bought? 7y
Bostonmomx2 I don‘t understand why some authors feel the need to write some of the stuff they do. I felt that way about The Roanoke Girls. It was just gross with no point, no resolution and I felt disgusting when I finished. 7y
FireHeartRattlerOfStars @collegecatlady yea, now I'm curious to see whats going on in this book 7y

I'm a sucker for books with women who start off weak and end strong. I know that it's pretty much the basic formula for the YA genre, but what can you do? 🤷‍♀️👍👍👍

I'm working towards getting #BlackoutBingo in this #ReadingBingo #Challenge 🙌

Jess7 I like this! 7y
Jess7 I want to do this but ill have to start next year bc I've already read almost all of those this year 7y
MorbidAi @Jess7 it's a really neat way to get out of your go to genre. I've read a few books this year that I never would've picked up otherwise and ended up really enjoying them. 7y

It's time for another #mapmonday post!!!! I have to admit that this tag is one of my favorites! I love seeing all the gorgeous maps in books!!! .
The book I'm featuring today is Burning Glads by @kathrynpurdie and guess what I have actually read and LOVED this book! It's a darker YA fantasy that I found very intriguing!!! If you like books that have epic romance, intriguing villains and high stake rebellions make sure to check this one out!!!

LuniReads I couldn't get into this book, but then again I was in a major slump when I tried to read it so I'll probably give it another try soon!😊 8y

I know it's cool to shit on this story, but I loved it. Did it bring anything new to the YA genre? No. Was it super fun? Hell yeah! Sonya was the captain of the hot mess express and everyone was super over dramatic, BUT IT WAS ENTERTAINING. I look forward to the second book.

Mehso-so

in the beginning the book was very amusing however in the middle it was just plain boring only the last hundred pages was intruiging but even that didn't convince me to buy the next book

I really enjoyed Burning Glass. I thought the characters were rich and complex. The fictional world is based on imperialistic Russia, which drew me into the story. And, it reminds me of Throne of Glass a little bit, just not quite as good. I look forward to reading the sequel when it's released.
