I Hate Picture Books!

Okay, Littens...my book nerdiness was out in full force this morning on the way to work! The local radio station I listen to on my 20-minute ride to school (Mix 104.1 in MA...Karson and Kennedy---anyone else a listener?) was having a RIDICULOUS debate this morning. Kennedy, the female DJ, said she thought since she read a lot that there must be a lot of other readers out there...the two male DJs basically said that there was no way most people⬇️

asiriusreader Read books anymore, and they even went so far as to say that people who claimed that they read books are lying about it (I guess to 'look smart'?? 🤔). I was so incensed, and I wanted to call in but I didn't have time before my before school meeting, so I just had time to write a quick message to their text line. I can only hope they read it on air (notice I mentioned Litsy?). I only mentioned my number thus far because one of the male DJs...⬇️ 7y

asiriusreader Said he wanted facts and statistics if there were really any readers out there! Gotta defend a fellow reader, am I right?! Ok, rant over! I wish I had had time to call in or write a more eloquent message in defense of reading and readers...ah well. I'm curious: What would you all have said? 7y

asiriusreader @GypsyKat I don't know them in real life, but I listen to them all the time. I've always thought of the two male DJs as kind of loveable goofballs...but today's show really dropped them down several notches! No one messes with my fellow readers! 😂 7y

Amandajoy I think it would be funny if those two DJs received a deluge of strongly worded emails, using proper grammar of course. There are whole stores dedicated to books & reading. Do they think magic keeps them in business? Nope, it's hardcore readers. Idiots. 7y

Sace @asiriusreader it's really a shame that there's this idea that readers don't exist and that people don't read but lie that they do. Or it's associated with negative stereotypes (pseudo-intellectualim, hyper-intellectualism, nerdery, suppressed women reading romance etc?) as if reading were only for social weirdos on the fringe of "normal" society. Am I making sense? 7y

That's why I love that readers (and other groups of passionate fans of something) have taken back the word 'nerd' and put a more positive connotation to it--that it instead means we have a strong love and passion for reading--as in, "we are book nerds and proud of it!" ? 7y

jpmcwisemorgan Karson has tweeted an article about how 28% of 1000 people hadn't read a book in the prior year. Like that's a lot or something? Over half had!!!! 7y
