I just finished the first draft of my first novel! Now it‘s time to finally finish Save the Cat in an attempt to make the draft resemble a pile of trash slightly less.

If anyone out there has written a book or is in the stages of writing one, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

dylanisreading I love this book for writing advice. 4y
JillsBookshelf @Bianca it‘s been great so far. Maybe when I finish I‘ll take another picture. There are already tons of sticky notes! 🤣🤣🤣 4y

Save The Cat Writes A Novel by Jessica Brody is to help with plotting the acts needed in a gripping book (I used it for editing to check my pacing).

#AOTD I always forget to share my writing resource books. This little collection were the three titles I used most when working on Ocean Heart.

Long time no post! I spent the last month finishing up the first draft of my novel, which I‘m so excited about! I‘m starting on revisions in October, so I‘m hoping to read these non-fic writing books I‘ve heard great things about, as well as some spooky reads. 🎃👻

AmyG Good luck with your book! 4y
LeahBergen Congrats on that first draft! 👏🏻 4y

Love the way this book breaks down story structure. I think it lives up to all of the hype. I am such a story structure nerd!

Moonprismpower Are you writing a novel? 4y
SShiney Hi! Yeah I have been working on my debut novel for years. Are you writing one too? 4y
CJRwriting I will have to pick this up! I am a Creative Writing teacher for a college and the previous Save the Cat books have been fantastic to work with. 4y

SShiney Hi @CJRwriting ! Yeah, you should! It uses a lot of concrete examples from books to explain story structure. 4y

I‘m thinking about doing #NaNoWriMo for fun this year, 😳 so I picked up a few novel plotting books. This book was extremely informative, well written, and concise. The examples were very helpful, and the tips were pragmatic. I‘ll definitely be referring to this one a lot, even if it‘s just to plot my favorite books.

twohectobooks Do it! I did NaNoWriMo for many years before burning out and taking a long break (I‘m still not quite ready to try again). The first time is really fun though and a treasured bunch of memories for me. 5y
thebluestocking @twohectobooks Thanks for the encouragement. I‘ve half done it before with friends, but have never “won.” I think I‘m ready to push through this year. 💙 5y

Okay, this is a book every novelist should read. It really does give a lot of valuable insight into the process of piecing together a novel and as someone about to dive into a rewrite (not for the first time) I think its going to prove really useful in helping me figure out what's working and what isn't. Highly, highly recommended for newbie writers just starting out and the more seasoned novelists, too.

RJHowe Have to agree. Got a lot out of that one. 6y

Ok, so I read A LOT of books on writing. I‘m also very confident in my writing skills. However, this books is the first one I‘ve read in a LONG time, that made me go “Woah! I really need to work on some aspects of my novel!”. It‘s so very insightful and most helpful! I highly recommend this to all #writersoflitsy , no matter how seasoned in writing you might be.

Marilyncjackson So I finally bought this and omg what a great book! Thanks for the good review 😊 6y
