Persephone | Loic Locatelli-Kournwsky
5 posts | 8 read | 1 reading | 3 to read
French author Loc Locatelli-Kournwsky presents a modern-day retelling of the Greek myth of Demeter and her daughter Persephone in an exciting universe that blends high-fantasy adventure with visuals reminiscent of Japanese anime and 1950s American-style comics. Persephone may be the adopted daughter of the famous magician Demeter, but she struggles to find her place alongside such a force of nature. Persephones desire to find out where she belongs takes her on an epic adventure deep into the Underworld, where shell discover whoor whatshe is.

This was a great story and the illustrations were okay. It's about a girl who was adopted by a mage and is kidnapped to Hades. I loved all the characters and figured out who the bad guy was pretty early on. Ending was cute and happy. Just as a good story should end!

A new take on the Persephone myth. I enjoyed this new take a lot. Still follows the basic myth but gives it a new world and magic that‘s just a lot of fun.

Zeus is snoring little snores as I read this beautiful graphic novel. I liked the style of the art in this one and the different take on the myth of Persephone with many added elements and world building. #winterstormreadathon #dogsoflitsy #litsyatoz #p

I‘ve been really into Greek myth retellings this year, esp. the Persephone myth (any Lore Olympus Webtoons fans out here?) and this one didn‘t fail to disappoint! Loïc was more just briefly inspired by the original story, but it was so cool to see where he went with it. Loved Demeter as a BA mage but also really appreciated Persephone‘s storyline, which gave her such agency and purpose. She‘s a v strong heroine! Art style is great for Ghibli fans!
