An accessible, interesting introduction to Shakespeare. I intend to use it with my daughter at some point in the future (would have been a good source over this summer, but it‘s a bit late for that). Uses memorization of key speeches from a selection of plays to familiarize us with the bard‘s work. Good paraphrases; gotta say I‘m not thrilled about downloading the quotation pages (large print text pages to aid in memorizing).

ImperfectCJ I might have to check this one out. I'm not keen on Shakespeare, but I want to make sure my children have a working knowledge of his plays (and they like Shakespeare, so I'd best follow their lead). 4y
ravenlee @ImperfectCJ I think it‘s a good plan that Ludwig has. Of course, I haven‘t implemented it yet, so there is that. I was impressed with the resources he lists at the back of the book - books for kids, books for adults, films, and more. That alone makes this a worthwhile read for me. 4y
ravenlee And I completely forgot to mention this was my #doublespin this month @TheAromaofBooks ! 4y
TheAromaofBooks Great progress, and sounds like an interesting read!! 4y

I don‘t often hear about Northrop Frye, so it always surprises me to encounter him. My advisor in undergrad was Frye‘s graduate assistant for several years, and has worked on compiling/editing Frye‘s papers since his death, releasing several collections. I have quite a few of Frye‘s books but haven‘t read most of them fully 😬.

Diving back into this one (I had a false start several years ago, but my kiddo was too young and I didn‘t think the info would stay in my tired mom brain) for #doublespin

Deifio Sounds interesting! 4y

RavenLovelyReads @Mdargusch They are both excellent! Try the Stories first. It tells the story in a kid friendly way. 6y
GingerAntics Hey, but your kids are talking about the Tempest!!! That‘s pretty freaking awesome!!! 6y
RavenLovelyReads @GingerAntics you‘re right! An 8 and 9 year old discussing Shakespeare is pretty cool 😎...but they discuss video games far more often! 6y

#alltheworldsastage when you're a book lover who works in theatre. Here's a glance at some of my Shakespeare collection, including Ken Ludwig's book, which I absolutely loved. Brilliant ideas for getting kids to learn the language of Shakespeare. #feistyfeb #shakespeare

This gem will join my canon of tried and true resources for teaching Shakespeare. Ludwig's insistence on memorization to bring alive Shakespeare's genius is brilliant. His practical advice, insight into the language, and helpful bibliography make this book invaluable!

"As for memorization, I'm convinced it unlocks the whole world of Shakespeare in a unique way. In order to memorize something, you have to be very specific and honest with yourself. You have to work slowly, and you have to understand every word of you're memorizing."
