A book with forged bonds of friendship to help possible survival. A great book that represents hunger, cold, and threat. Keeping secrets to see if it will help their freedom and become an American. A great book to read about the history of the fight for freedom. Genre: Historical Fiction; Published: 2010
“I laughed then, walking out of Valley Forge the way I walked into it- with my friends”
I think older students will really enjoy reading this book along with “Chains.” They are interesting ways for them to learn about American history.
Forge is the sequel to Laurie Halse Anderson‘s book “Chains.” Forge is about young soldiers in Valley Forge who are just trying to survive.
And now-the reveal...
Oh m‘gosh-so awesome!!! I am so stoked. I wanted ALL of these! Absolutely amazing. The Big Steve frame note is going by my bedside! I had picked up and then set down this edition of Fantastic Beasts-that‘s some ESP on your part, Scott! Thank you, thank you. Completely wonderful.

I really need to read this series.
Forge is the solid, compelling second book of the Seeds of America series for middle grade readers. It follows the stories of Isabel and Curzon, two young slaves who seek freedom during the American war for independence.
I liked this book, but the shift of main character from the first book was a surprise that took time to get accustomed to. I learned a lot about slavery during this war, as well as the dire conditions for soldiers. Enjoyable.
“There were some eleven thousand soldiers at camp, making Valley Forge the third biggest city in America...”
I learned much more about the American Revolutionary War in this book, which is mostly set at Valley Forge, the camp of the American forces.
