This is a short book so hoping it is gripping enough to get it done in one sitting today.

Jordan, thank you thank you for this amazingly spooktacular #HHS gift box. I love everything (I already ate the Rolos lol!!) I‘ll be wearing my socks tomorrow and I can‘t wait to start these books. Nights of the Living Dead - the zombie movie that started it all. Love it!!
Happy Halloween @The.Great.Catsby !

Pretty good! A uniquely quiet look at a zombie apocalypse survivor. There were some things I wanted to know more about. But overall enjoyable.
And that's that, last read of 2021. Did not achieve my Goodreads goal at all, gonna set it to something much easier for 22 😝
TBR read for more points, too, yay!
There‘s so much to like about this dystopian Irish story but I finished feeling unsatisfied. I wanted more.
This story is ok. We follow Orpen in dual timelines. Her life being raised on an island zombie free near Ireland by two women, her Mam and Mauve, who are raising her to... this is where it‘s about that parenting where you give your child the answer but don‘t exactly tell them the question. And the other timeline is off the island after she is left alone and how that answer becomes wrong because she doesn‘t know what it was all for. It bugged 👇🏼
Zombie apocalypse novels aren‘t really my thing; I read this because it was a recommendation from my MIL. I felt this one could have done with some more world building. I would have liked some background in how the apocalypse happened and some history of the Banshees, the army of women that fight the zombies.
This was really well written, but a bit too tough for me! I think this was just a not for me book.
Bleak, sad, and taut, but with moments of hope and triumph. I cannot believe I‘m talking about a zombie book, but reader, I am.
I flew through this book, after almost not even starting. Really strong writing and a serious feminist vibe. Orpen is a character that is going to stick with me, and I must say I would not be opposed to a sequel. Her world is original and fascinating.

Set in a post-apocalyptic Ireland, this zombie thriller is certainly evocative and atmospheric. The considered prose is full of colloquial quirks that really instil it with a firm sense of place that I enjoyed. It is also quite fiercely feminist in a lot of ways, and neatly subverts many tropes of the genre. While it slightly lagged for me about three quarters of the way in, it's a great, quick read. I'd give it a solid three and a half stars.
Settling in for a cosy evening! I'm a total wimp when it comes to zombies but I've heard great things about this one so I'm willing to give it a go. Wish me luck! 😭
Dystopian fiction has been a favorite of mine for years! So glad I was able to get my hands on this creepy, yet powerful novel!
