So…I've crossed the wine-dark sea and came to
the Lotus-eaters, escaped Cyclops, but not Poseidon's
wrath, received a bag of wind that sent me back again,
stayed on Circe's island in the throes of her magic,
voyaged to the House of Death, heard the sirens sing,
passed Charybdis and Scylla and felt the blows of Helios
and laid in the arms of Calypso, but never gave heart and
back to Ithaca where the deathless gods finally made amends.
Close up of part of my Bookish Cats puzzle.
Some of the other squares had Romeow and Juliet and Charlie and the Catnip Factory. 😻
This cute little Cyclops was my favourite.
🎧📚 You‘d need to be living under a rock to never have heard of The Odyssey so I‘ll review the packages it came in.
I finished the Audible version Sunday & the Penguin Clothbound Classic hardcover last night.
Audible is a more current version. Loved it! Surprisingly good narration!
Hardcover is beautiful. The pages are heavy, substantial, perfect for annotating & it‘s an easy version to read.
Lovely line of books & great audiobook!

Great article in today's New York Times on the new interpretations of epic poetry classics like the tagged, The Iliad, Beowolf. Touches on the rise of women translators in recent years, how politics and culture influence interpretations over the centuries, and mentions modern retellings like Circe.
