Leave It to Psmith | P. G. Wodehouse
10 posts | 16 read | 1 reading | 3 to read
P.G. Wodehouse is still the funniest writer ever to have put words on paper. Hugh Laurie Ronald Psmith (the p is silent, as in pshrimp) is always willing to help a damsel in distress. So when he sees Eve Halliday without an umbrella during a downpour, he nobly offers her an umbrella, even though its one he picks out of the Drone Clubs umbrella rack. Psmith is so besotted with Eve that, when Lord Emsworth, her new boss, mistakes him for Ralston McTodd, a poet, Psmith pretends to be him so he can make his way to Blandings Castle and woo her. And so the farce begins: criminals disguised as poets with a plan to steal a priceless diamond necklace, a secretary who throws flower pots through windows, and a nighttime heist that ends in gunplay. How will everything be sorted out? Leave it to Psmith!

Working on the Wodehouse episode. I'm honestly a little bit nervous because I want to do The Master justice.

This was fun but I like Jeeves and Wooster better.

1. Ohio, USA
2. Loads of rereads of old favorites lately - the tagged is definitely a fave!
3. My average seems to be around 300 pages, but I'm open to whatever as long as the story is engaging!

Thanks for the tag @Eggs!!!

1. Tagged - Wodehouse rarely lets me down!
2. If I'm dreading picking up a book instead of looking forward to it, or even just procrastinating instead of reading - it usually means that it isn't a book for me!
3. I know this sounds crazy, but Mary Higgins Clark! I've only read maybe two of her books and can't wait to read more.

Wodehouse never disappoints me, and while many people find Psmith to be an annoying character, I actually love him so hard. This book was a delight all the way through.

Final stats for #27Hours7Days - did not get to 27hrs (nor was I expecting to) but I did surpass my goal of 14hrs!!

Thanks for hosting @KristenDuck!!!!!

Crazeedi Such a pretty page ❤ 5y

Bookwormjillk I like your journal. It‘s been forever since I read anything by Wodehouse. I should see if my library has any online. 5y

TheAromaofBooks @Bookwormjillk - his books are just so happy. I frequently find used paperback copies on eBay for only a couple of dollars, so that's another option as well!! 5y
ravenlee Well done! 5y
KateFulfordAuthor Agreed. The apparent idiocy of Bertie Wooster belies Wodehouse‘s dazzling command of the language and beautifully realised plots. Love one and you will love them all. 5y

Chapter 1: Dark Plottings at Blandings Castle

At the open window of the great library of Blandings Castle, drooping like a wet stock, as was his habit when he had nothing to prop his spine against, the Earl of Emsworth, that amiable and boneheaded peer, stood gazing out over his domain.

A delightful British tale set in the 1920s... About a hilarious web of lies with characters whose paths cross unexpectedly.

shanmcf @Bluegrassyogi I need to lend you this one! 7y

I'm off work, soccer is on in the background, and I'm reading Wodehouse. A nice combo of three of my favorite things.
