When Eugenie Davies is killed by a driver on a quiet London street, her death is clearly no accident. Someone struck her with a car and then deliberately ran over her body before driving off, leaving nothing behind but questions. What brought Eugenie Davies to London on a rainy autumn night? Why was she carrying the name of the man who found her body? Who among the many acquaintances in her complicated and tragic life could have wanted her dead? And could her murder have some connection to a twenty-eight-year-old musical wunderkind, a virtuoso violinist who several months earlier suddenly and inexplicably lost the ability to play a single note? For Detective Inspector Thomas Lynley, whose own domestic life is about to change radically, these questions are only the first in an investigation that leads him to walk a fine line between personal loyalty and professional honor. Assigned to the case by his superior, Superintendent Malcolm Webberly, Lynley learns that Webberly's first murder investigation as a DI over twenty years ago involved Eugenie Davies and a sensational criminal trial. Yet what is truly damaging is what Webberly already knows and no doubt wants Lynley to keep concealed. Now the pressure is on Lynley to find Eugenie Davies' killer. For not only is he putting his own career into jeopardy, but he is also attempting to safeguard the careers of his longtime partners Barbara Havers and Winston Nkata. Together, they must untangle the dark secrets and darker passions of a family whose history conceals the truth behind a horrific crime. From the Hardcover edition.

A Traitor to Memory | Elizabeth George

Complex, as always with Elizabeth George, heavy on the psychological side of things, with both Lynley and Havers misbehaving!

Pickpick

I‘m a big fan of Elizabeth George‘s Inspector Lynley mysteries, dark though they may be. Be warned - this is a long one.

Finished #20in4 with 10 hrs 20 mins. With all the sports I watched on the weekend, I‘m actually happy with those results!

Thanks again for hosting, @Andrew65

youngreadrshelf I love these. There was just one I couldn‘t get through because I knew what was going to happen and just couldn‘t. 3y

Settling in for an afternoon of reading with a white wine spritzer. I threw some frozen berries into the mix and it‘s been fun watching the blueberries bounce up and down. Wonder what the science is behind that. 🤔

LeahBergen Pour me a glass and I‘ll come watch with you. 😆 6y
MamaGina My new warm weather drink is a vodka tonic where I use frozen mango cubes instead of ice cubes, so yummy🍹 6y

EvieBee @JoScho Lol thank you! 6y
EvieBee @LeahBergen Come on over! 🍷🤓 6y
EvieBee @MamaGina Okay, that sounds amazing! I think I have all the ingredients for that. 6y
TheWordJar In elementary school, I did a science fair project called “Dancing Raisins”—putting raisins in Sprite and watching them go up and down. The carbon dioxide bubbles get trapped in the wrinkles, causing the raisins to float. At the top of the glass, the bubbles pop, causing the raisins to sink. 🤓 6y
BiblioLitten @MamaGina cool! There are so many mangoes right now. I'm sure I'll like them with the bubbles.😀 6y
EvieBee @TheWordJar That makes so much sense! And it‘s only the blueberries doing the bouncing! Thank you! ♥️ 6y
EvieBee @BiblioLitten @MamaGina I forgot I had bought a lemon infused vodka after the holidays on sale! It was so good with the mangoes and tonic. (edited) 6y
MamaGina Wow @EvieBee @BiblioLitten ... you kicked it up a notch girlfriend!!! 😃 6y
bitterbear I have the same bookmark 😍😍😍 6y
EvieBee @bitterbear I had the very first one. I think I bought it in 2008 but it didn‘t have a tassel or bling! So I retired it when I saw this bad boy. So handy, right?! 🤓 6y

It‘s taken me over a week to figure out what to read next and get past a few chapters. So I think it‘s safe to say I will be reading this through. Phew. Now to choose a library book from the pile. Probably a mild case of reader‘s block.

#MarchIntoOz #day11 #HitAndRun Today‘s prompt is a pretty obscure song that I loved from the 80s by JoJo Zep & The Falcons. In this Inspector Lynley novel by Elizabeth George, a hit & run death is ruled murder when they discover that the woman was run over multiple times. Ouch. I hope everyone‘s enjoying the #photochallenge & also the songs on Spotify that have inspired me. https://goo.gl/sZuCbs

CarolynM Love Joe Camilleri. This challenge of yours is giving me ear worms nearly every day. Lucky they're such good songs! 6y
