Another very good read from this author, my third during this month. She writes some good stories and settings, covering some key turning points in people‘s lives. A good audiobook version

20th Book finished for #WinterGames2021 #MistletoeManiacs

Started a new audiobook by Heidi Swain who has written a few Christmas books / romances, usually good backdrop stories.

For @Reggie @Cinfhen @Megabooks 😘 The difference between mince pies and mince pies!

Left - mince pie is beef mince, savoury pastry, served hot, eaten with tomato sauce/ketchup - usually about the size of your hand - although mini ones are called savouries and big ones are called family size

Right - Christmas mince pie is minced fruit, sweet short pastry, served cold (although a little bit warm is nice too) bite sized usually

MsMelissa I had no idea there is a meat version. I always associate the word mince with the Christmas version since we have them as one of our Christmas desserts every year. We call them mincemeat pies though, rather than just mince pies (I‘m in Canada). 4y
MsMelissa Oh, and the meat version of the mince pie we just call meat pies. Gosh, now I want one 😂 4y
Megabooks THANK YOU!! This clears up so much. And they both sound so good! 🤤 4y

IndoorDame Thank you! So useful. These come up in books surprisingly often, and as an American Jew I‘ve never actually seen either. 4y
Cathythoughts Christmas mince pie .... my absolute favorite, with lots of cream ofcorse X 4y
LeeRHarry The savoury mince one is a meat pie in Melbourne - I‘ve only ever had one at the footy - and small ones are party pies 😊 4y
Centique @Book_Fiend_Melissa @LeeRHarry I think we call them mince pies rather than meat pies because we also have steak pies (and mince n cheese, steak n cheese, bacon n egg, chicken, butter chicken etc - 🤪 many hot pies!) 4y
Centique @Cathythoughts I have never had it with cream! Will try that 😘 4y
Cinfhen This is fascinating 🙌🏻😁💖‼️I‘m definitely interested in trying both 😜Thanks, Flea xxx 4y
Centique @LeeRHarry so funny the things we have different names for when we‘re so closely related - what we call Cheerios you call “little boys” that always made me laugh, doonas and duvets, flip flops and jandals, swimmers and togs, stack hats and helmets 😂😂😂 I used to be in Melbourne at least once a year for work or family. Missing it! 4y
LeeRHarry @Centique I‘m from the UK originally and I fought against saying doona for soooo long 🤣 and the flip flops/thongs thing is still weird! 😊 4y
Clare-Dragonfly “Jandals”?! Is that Aussie slang? I thought I was pretty well up on it, but it always surprises! (I‘m US American.) 4y
Lauram I love them both!! I wish I could find more savory pies in my area. 4y
xicanti Ha! When I first moved to NZ, I was totally confused as to why people would put cheese on their mince pies, let alone tomato sauce. Then I realized that to kiwis, mince is what we Canadians call ground beef. Everything made sense after that. 4y
Centique @Clare-Dragonfly jandals is Kiwi slang! Aussies call them thongs, maybe UK say flip flops? I know you guys use the word thong for something very different 😂 4y
Centique @IndoorDame I‘m glad it‘s helpful 😊 I‘m always here for translating Kiwi slang ( and my Aussie slang is nearly there!) 4y
Centique @xicanti isn‘t it crazy that we call it mince? It‘s basically a verb isn‘t it 🤣😂 And there are many kinds of minced meats so it doesn‘t make sense that we don‘t add the word beef either 🤪 4y
Centique @Lauram they‘re both yummy! I have a recipe for steak pies if you ever want one 😊👍 4y
Lauram @centique I‘d LOVE the recipe! Thank you! Lmelgun@gmail.com 4y
Reggie Hmmm I‘ve never had either. I live in the land of tamales and empanadas. And every time I hear mince pie I just think of Arya from Game of Thrones. Thanks for the lesson, Paula! 4y
Centique @Reggie I had to google that as I gave up on GOT after Season 4. Bleurgh. That would put you off pies for life! I‘ve never had a tamale or an empanada - I know I‘m missing out on something good! 4y
Centique @Reggie AND I just googled and discovered New Zealand‘s first Tamaleria has opened about 10 minutes away from me! I will let you know as soon as I get one 🥰 4y
paper.reveries They are both making me HUNGRAYY! 4y

Sarah83 @Rachbb3 it's quite near, about three hours away. 😉 Did your dad work for the army? 7y
Rachbb3 He did. My sister was born in Munich and myself in Weisbaden. I remember my favorite Christmas in Germany. I hope one day to visit again. ❤ 7y
