"NEW YORK TIMES "BESTSELLER In this poignant novel of longing and salvation, a hopeful widow and a resilient war hero discover the promise of love s magic and new beginnings. After surviving the Napoleonic Wars, Sir Benedict Harper is struggling to move on, his body and spirit in need of a healing touch. Never does Ben imagine that hope will come in the form of a beautiful woman who has seen her own share of suffering. After the lingering death of her husband, Samantha McKay is at the mercy of her oppressive in-laws until she plots an escape to distant Wales to claim a house she has inherited. Being a gentleman, Ben insists that he escort her on the fateful journey. Ben wants Samantha as much as she wants him, but he is cautious. What can a wounded soul offer any woman? Samantha is ready to go where fate takes her, to leave behind polite society and even propriety in her desire for this handsome, honorable soldier. But dare she offer her bruised heart as well as her body? The answers to both their questions may be found in an unlikely place: in each other s arms. This was a light, fun read. The hero has a significant disability, and yet the author showed us how attractive and worthy of love and acceptance he is. The heroine is not thin, or pasty white. She has a full figure and a diverse background. Bravo! Even better, they figure out what they want out of their lives as individuals before getting married.

A fun read, Ben has survived the Napoleonic Wars but is now crippled. He offers to escort a widow to her home in Wales, so she no longer has to live with her oppressive in-laws (hence The Escape). He doesn't think he has anything to offer her, she doesn't want to feel that she has to be "proper" any longer. Of course, they fall in love. #LitsyPartyofOne

CocoReads Also this is letter E for #LitsyAtoZ @BookishMarginalia 8y

Pizzas here and I'm almost done with the book! #LitsyPartyOfOne

Megabooks Yum! 8y
CocoReads Would have been yummier with a thicker crust but I'm trying to be better about my carbs. However, I certainly wasn't going to spend introvert night just eating cottage cheese. 8y

Dishes are done, just enough room in the dishwasher for dinner dishes (and I'm planning on pizza delivery and salad, so not many dishes there). Going to finish this and then we'll see where I go from there. #LitsyPartyOfOne

CocoReads Update. Hub just got home from work. He is going out for a guys night at some point but in the meantime....he's very chatty. I've read the same paragraph 5 times now. 😬 8y

Woke up late but thought I'd better take the time to charge all my devices before work. I can't truly have my #LitsyPartyOfOne until later but On Fridays I usually have a chance to read a little at work. Choices, choices.

Spent the evening at my sisters as she was helping me get tickets put together for a fundraiser our church does every year and I was short on time. Now I'm going to relax in a hot bath with this gem and then call it a night. #book&bath

I can't say that it's a #mealthatIlove but it's what's for lunch today at my desk. It's certainly healthier than what I usually eat! #17booklove

As someone who doesn't normally read romance but does enjoy Jane Austen, I absolutely loved this book. It was so sweet and lovely. The plot felt natural and wasn't overly done. Just lovely. Thanks Get Booked Podcast!

After the intensity of the day and finishing Ugly and Wonderful, I'm going with some lighter reading.

So my library system is doing a reading challenge called A Year of Reading where we read specific book genres or types throughout the year. Surprise surprise, February is Romance!! Now...romance isn't really my thing, simply because I haven't found "my thing" with romance (other than Austen related items...and the occasional rom com). My goal is to read more romance this month, so if u have suggestions for me, I'm open!

theshrinkette For regency romances , I recommend Courtney Milan and Sarah MacLean's books. They feature kickass feminist characters. You can also check the #romantsy tag for suggestions. Also @KarenaFagan is an excellent resource. 8y
KarenaFagan Ooh! I'm so flattered! Thanks lady!! 8y
JoRead I'm bad at recommending romances although that's pretty much I've been reading lately. I think it's because I'm afraid to point an already hesitant reader in the wrong direction and then they end up hating the genre completely 😕 Still, try Jill Shalvis, @EloisaJames , @JoannaShupe , Sophie Jordan, and what @theshrinkette recommended 😉 8y
Magslhalliday Maybe try some Georgette Heyer? She pretty much set the template for modern Regency Romance. I started with 8y

I realised I have 2 Mary Balogh Survivors' Club on the pile and a third in the library book bag. None are the first one, but I think I should start on the earliest I have in the interests of reducing the pile!
