Alphabet Squadron
Alphabet Squadron | Alexander Freed
On the verge of victory in a brutal war, five New Republic pilots transform from hunted to hunters in this epic STAR WARS adventure. The Emperor is dead. His final weapon has been destroyed. The imperial army is in disarray. In the aftermath, Yrica Quell is just one of thousands of defectors from her former cause living in a deserters' shantytownuntil she is selected to join Alphabet Squadron. Cobbled together from an eclectic assortment of pilots and starfighters, the five members of Alphabet are tasked by New Republic General Hera Syndulla herself. Like Yrica, each is a talented pilot struggling to find their place in a changing galaxy. Their mission: to track down and destroy the mysterious Shadow Wing, a lethal force of TIE fighters exacting bloody, reckless vengeance in the twilight of their reign. The newly formed unit embodies the heart and soul of the Rebellion: ragtag, resourceful, scrappy, and emboldened by their most audacious victory in decades. But going from underdog rebels to celebrated heroes isn't as easy as it seems, and their inner demons threaten them as much as their enemies among the stars. The wayward warriors of Alphabet Squad will have to learn to fly together if they want to protect the new era of peace theyve fought so hard to achieve.

I enjoyed Alphabet Squadron not quite as much as Aftermath, which also takes place just after The Battle of Endor. This book follows Yrica Quell a former Imperial Tie pilot who has defected to the Alliance where she is leading a group of misfits in search of Shadow Wing an elite group of Imperial pilots and her old squadron.

The first books in these side trilogies can always be difficult. A new cast of characters to get to know, slowly watch their paths converge, and then, usually painfully, become a team. The first books are always a lot of background and legwork, and although it took awhile to get there, I definitely want to see what this ragtag, mismatched group of characters gets involved with next.

Plus I really loved seeing Hera again!💙

This really sums it up. Such an important question to be asked.

I love how there are heroes in the Star Wars universe, that are no heroes at all.
The cover made me interested in this book from the start, but I never thought, that I would love it that much! The characters are well written and I especially got a soft spot for Quill.
So glad the #StarWarsBuddyRead made me reading this book! ❤ Can't wait for next months book.

A decent but slightly bland Star Wars novel. I kept waiting for something different to happen but it kind of just stayed the same throughout.
3/5 ⭐

So excited for the new movie though!!!! 😁

It starts a bit slow, about 150 pages in until the squadron comes together, and there are quiet a few characters, both Rebels and Imperials, to keep in mind, but once the action begins it's a fun adventure. The first of a trilogy, I'm interested to see what happens next. 4 💥💥💥💥

vhkebbe Yeah, I‘ve had the same feeling, 150 pages to really engage the reader. 5y

Well, I love the cover. I usually do Star Wars by audio where possible, but they‘ve not released this in NZ yet in that format. I did like the story but I found it a bit confusing in places. I‘m still questioning some of the characters motivations and loyalty even when the story is over. I do think I‘ll come back, perhaps reread this one before the next ones come out, (this is a trilogy) as Yrica Quell is engaging enough to want more of. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I actually liked this a lot better than I thought I would! Still too much action for my taste but I ended up really liking the characters and an interesting to see where the series will go next

This is now one of my favorite Star Wars books! The plot follows a special intelligence squadron after the battle of Endor. I loved how each chapter is divided into perspectives from the different pilots, and you little glimpses of the larger puzzle as you get to know each character. Also, pilot angst! I highly recommend this one. You don't need to have read any other Star Wars books to jump into this. I laughed, cried, and just really loved this!
