James Taylor: Long Ago and Far Away: His Life and Music
James Taylor: Long Ago and Far Away: His Life and Music | Timothy White
8 posts | 2 read | 2 to read
From The Beatles' patronage of his 1968 debut album to his Grammy awards for Hourglass, James Taylor has remained a universally acclaimed songwriter of effortless eloquence and power. In this major biography, the late Timothy White explores the myths and reality behind the personal journey of legendary singer. White examines the roots of Taylor's anguish, and his recurring problems with heroin and alcohol. There is an epic family history, an exploration of the stories behind Fire And Rain, and a frank account of the artist's time spent at Apple Records and Warner Brothers. With contributions from Paul McCartney, Carly Simon, Sting, the Taylor family and many other key figures, this edition is destined to become the definitive biography of the troubled hero. There is also an epilogue concerning the memorial concerts arranged by Taylor for the late author White, as well as an extensive discography and bibliography.

(Day 25 - #DownInMexico)

*Why do song titles make me think of other songs, instead of books? Who knows? Anyway, I‘m very sure that when I was but a young gal, I sang this song in the shower all the time:
🎶 Oh, Mexico
It sounds so simple I just gotta go
The sun‘s so hot I forgot to go home
Guess I‘ll have to go now...🎶

That‘s “Mexico” by James Taylor from 1975. Wow—I‘m that old. 😂

BarbaraBB I don‘t know that song. Though I was there in 1975 too 👵🏻 5y
Kappadeemom I love that song!! 5y
cathysaid I‘m with ya...me and my Metamucil. 👵🏻 5y

gradcat @BarbaraBB I‘m kind of surprised that you don‘t know that song, but I‘m so happy that you were with me (in spirit) in 1975. 5y
gradcat @Kappadeemom I‘ve been singing it for approximately 24 hours now! 😂 5y
gradcat @Cinfhen I kind of suspect that you do, too, in a way...you know lots of songs and all of the lyrics to boot! 😎 5y
BarbaraBB I think its fame didn‘t make it across the Atlantic 😉 5y
gradcat @cathysaid I know, right? Got to keep regular! 😂 5y
gradcat @BarbaraBB That is so surprising to me...you would not believe how big he was here...it started with this song called “Fire and Rain.” 5y
BarbaraBB I Googled it but I have never heard that one either. Maybe I was just too young 😉 5y

When lonely days turn to lonely nights
You take a trip to the city lights
And take the long way home
Take the long way home

Traveling around sure gets me down and lonely
Nothing else to do but close my mind
I sure hope the road don't come to own me
There's so many dreams I've yet to find
But you‘re so far away

I am 53% into this book. I am huge James Taylor fan and very interested in this book. I am learning so much more ... the author spends a lot of time of his family, his father, and many of Taylor's friends. Who knew I would learn so much about Ike Taylor and Carole King?
