City of God: A Novel | Paulo Lins

Maaaaaany years ago my grandfather was in the navy, and his ship stopped in Rio during one of their tours. He bought a photo booklet for my grandmother which I “inherited,” and I was fortunate enough to spend a few days there on the way home from a work thing in Brasilia in 2002. It had gotten a little more built up in the meantime!

To date it‘s the farthest south I‘ve been and also the farthest away from home. #sofaraway #anglophileapril

Kazuo Ishiguro was as good as I expected it to be. Stylish prose, characters obsessed with getting things done their way. A dream like quality to the narration and an ending all in tones of grey. I loved it.
