Brain: The Story of You
Brain: The Story of You | David Eagleman
Locked in the silence and darkness of your skull, your brain fashions the rich narratives of your reality and your identity. Join renowned neuroscientist David Eagleman for a journey into the questions at the mysterious heart of our existence. What is reality? Who are "you"? How do you make decisions? Why does your brain need other people? How is technology poised to change what it means to be human? In the course of his investigations, Eagleman guides us through the world of extreme sports, criminal justice, facial expressions, genocide, brain surgery, gut feelings, robotics, and the search for immortality. Strap in for a whistle-stop tour into the inner cosmos. In the infinitely dense tangle of billions of brain cells and their trillions of connections, something emerges that you might not have expected to see in there: you. This is the story of how your life shapes your brain, and how your brain shapes your life. (A companion to the six-part PBS series. Color illustrations throughout.)

This book uses concise and simple way to talk laymen (like me) about our brains. Excited about knowing those experiments and findings of the brains. Like this book. 4 stars out of 5.

This really was a fascinating journey through the human brain, what it means to be human, and what it means to be sentient. I loved the way the author considered what we have and what we might be able to achieve, and what that might mean for us. Such a huge amount of information, well considered and clearly set out. It was also great to hear how enthusiastic the author was about the subject in his reading.

Pick this one without a miss. You will love to know how much less we are in control. How the intricacies of the decisions we take are laced out. Good to know more about us from a scientific perspective. Have fun reading!!

A brilliantly accessible and wide-ranging book about what (we think) we know about the brain. From how sight works, to the effect of Botox on our psychology, to the possibility of transhumanism and artificial intelligence and the reasons why a social species can commit violence and genocide Eagleman's knowledge and enthusiasm come through on every page. Absolutely stuffed with fascinating information

Chrissyreadit My teen is reading this and loves it too. 7y
Moray_Reads @Chrissyreadit it's great, so much food for thought 7y

This was fascinating and detailed. I especially enjoyed the parts about sensory deprivation, cryogenic freezing, and unusual medical cases. I haven't seen the PBS series that goes along with this book, but I'll be watching it soon. I'm also planning to read Incognito ASAP. Eagleman does an excellent job of narrating; I highly recommend listening to the audio version.
Book #2 for #readathon.
