I've honestly got mixed feelings about this one. Whilst the storyline had a lot of potential I feel the pacing of the story was off. At times plodding other times not enough time given. With that said this is a 🌟🌟🌟 read at most for me. #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks

I picked up this book hoping for Newsies vibes, and I didn't get them, but I still enjoyed it! I liked following Vera and her alter ego, and the plot twist with her mom at the end...hoo boy. The writing did feel a little exposition heavy, but given that the MC is a reporter, I suppose that's just in character. #historicalfiction

This was very good. It's all about equal rights for women and the views of society. Set in the decade before women received the right to vote, Vera works as a newspaper reporter. But because she's from one of the elite crowd, she writes under an assumed identity. Love, murder, injustice, betrayal. And hope comes at the end. Plus Cartier and the Hope diamond.

I received an #ARC via #netgalley but this is already out.

My wild Friday night! ❤️❤️❤️ doing my #24b4monday. I have only read 4 hours today. I must kick it in gear. I am almost finished with the tagged book. It‘s a good one. @Andrew65 @TheReadingMermaid

I enjoyed the portions about the history of the Hope Diamond and the curse associated with it. But the portions dealing with the injustices to women journalists bogged the story down, especially within the first few chapters of the book. I could not establish an emotional connection with Vera and ended up skimming much of the book, especially in the first half.

One of the things I liked the most about this novel is that it contains a strong, female main character; a female working in a male-dominated field and being extremely successful at it. It is well written and, although there were some slow spots, it mostly kept me hooked and engaged throughout. It wasn‘t difficult to figure out what was going on, so there were not a lot of surprises for me, but I enjoyed watching Vera uncover the truth.

I will probably be against the majority, but I hated this book. I didn't like the main character. She got on my nerves. I also thought the book would be more about Cartier and the Hope Diamond.

When I saw this on #goodreadsgiveaways I knew it would be right up my alley, gilded age NYC, Cartier, an infamous diamond!! And it was a fast read and all I hoped for 4 of 5 stars. Release - Jan. 28, 2020

This one didn't quite live up to its potential.I expected more of a BANG when it came to her article and Oxly but it was anti climactic considering it was what was driving her for the entire book. The reveal of her past was almost more interesting than the main plot. I think the author had too many things they wanted this book to be & instead of developing 1 or 2 ideas really well they just threw everything into the pot & hoped for the best.

tpixie Great cover though! 5y
