Agatha Raisin and Love, Lies and Liquor
Agatha Raisin and Love, Lies and Liquor | M. C. Beaton
8 posts | 20 read | 7 to read
Sea, sand - and the slammer for Agatha! Agatha Raisin thinks she's in for a treat when her ex-husband James Lacey invites her on holiday but - horrors! - his idea of an idyllic break is the small, run-down resort of Burryhill-on-Sea. And from there on things go from bad to worse, so when a fellow guest in their hotel is found murdered, Agatha herself is chief suspect - and has to solve this case from a locked police cell! Praise for the Agatha Raisin series: 'Sharp, witty, hugely intelligent, unfailingly entertaining . . . M. C. Beaton has created a national treasure' Anne Robinson ''M. C. Beaton's imperfect heroine is an absolute gem' Publishers Weekly 'An enchanting series . . . M. C. Beaton has a foolproof plot for the village mystery' New York Times Book Review

janeycanuck @MonicaLoves2Read I've been getting to it in fits & spurts. Maybe 2026 is the year I finally get it done! 2w
janeycanuck @TheKidUpstairs @Tamra It was really amazing, even with nine days of hiking, every day was totally different and every day brought new, incredible views. If you are a hiker at all, highly recommend doing even a small bit of the trail! 2w
ChaoticMissAdventures Oh!!! I have been watching the TV show and have just decided to read the books. I am soooo intrigued by this post! 2w
janeycanuck @ChaoticMissAdventures You will understand right away in Book 1, if I‘m not mistaken! He comes off better in the episodes of the TV show that I‘ve seen. 2w
BookishMarginalia I love the tv series and don‘t like the books. There‘s a nasty undertone in the books that just turns me off. The tv series is more fun. (edited) 2w
janeycanuck @BookishMarginalia Agreed. If I had started with the show, I don‘t think I‘d have even made it through the first books. Agatha can be a bit much but I really like the side characters from Carsley so that‘s why I‘ve kept with the books. 2w
BookishMarginalia Makes sense. I often have no trouble with books and tv series being different (Ann Cleeves books come to mind), but when there is a marked difference in the tone, it throws me. For example, the True Blood series I hated but the books I enjoyed. Three Pines in the Amazon series was a horrible place I wouldn‘t want to live in, but in the books it‘s a sanctuary. 2w

Agatha decides to go on holiday with James (why is beyond me, but I digress), and after getting into a verbal dispute with a hotel guest, is accused of the woman‘s murder. Needless to say, Agatha must prove her innocence. I like the addition of to the cast of characters, as it has helped keep the series fresh. Another good listen!

I sped through this #audiobook today and I quite enjoyed it! This is definitely in my top 3 of the series so far. The murder mystery aspect is quite good with lots of twists and turns and close calls for Agatha. She cracks me up as always, and I love how she finally stands up to James! Some might find her love life annoying but I find it realistic and always entertaining! 5⭐️

#cozymystery

Bookzombie I‘m not as far as you are in this series. I think my feelings toward her love life depend on my mood. Lol. 5y

I did a little #audiobaking this morning with my son (also known as MiniMoo) to celebrate @toddred29 on this Father‘s Day.

Happy Day to all, especially those single moms and dads out there doing it on their own!! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽❤️❤️❤️

ferskner That is so cute! 7y
wanderinglynn What a super cute cake! 👍🏻 7y
BlameJennyJane @ferskner and @wanderinglynn thanks so much! Homemade cakes, at least in my world, always look a little deflated but we had a blast making it! 7y

Another gripping tale by M.C Beaton.
If you haven't read any of her Agatha Raisin books by now, you should!
