Ruby Finds a Worry
Ruby Finds a Worry | Tom Percival
8 posts | 9 read | 8 to read
From the creator of Perfectly Norman comes a sensitive and reassuring story about what to do when a worry won't leave you alone. Meet Ruby--a happy, curious, imaginative girl. But one day, she finds something unexpected: a Worry. It's not such a big Worry, at first. But every day, it grows a little bigger . . . And a little bigger . . . Until eventually, the Worry is ENORMOUS and is all she can think about. But when Ruby befriends a young boy, she discovers that everyone has worries, and not only that, there's a great way to get rid of them too . . . This perceptive and poignant story is the perfect springboard for talking to children about emotional intelligence and sharing hidden anxieties.

This Judy Newman award winning book would be an amazing add to any elementary classroom library. I believe this book would make a great RA. Tom Percival did a fabulous job explaining anxiety/worry to young readers, which will help them understand social emotional learning. Having books like this are so important in your classroom because we want our students to feel comfortable & be able to find text they can relate too.

Vanvlieta This RF book shows that everyone can have a worry from time to time, but talking about it with someone you can trust can help ensure the worries won‘t hang around for long! This RA would best be taught using UDL principles 3.1(activate or supply background knowledge)& 3.3(Guide information processing, visualization, and manipulation)& ELS strategies 1(use pre-reading activities to activate former knowledge)& 5(check frequently for understanding). 3y
TabathaA I cannot wait to read this book. It was one of our Read Across America selections. There are so many lessons and creative projects you can do with it, and the message is extremely important for our young learners (as well as older ones). 3y
DrSpalding I love this book and I am so excited to give away the worry pom-poms that alex created at our June 12 event at Winter Springs Elementary school. Excellent Edutopia article and wonderful summary on this post. 3y

This book is a wonderful book that shows “worry” ruby a little girl discovered she had a worry in the book she shows how much her worry affected her life but at the end she showed how she was able to get rid of it by talking to others about it . This is a great book to show kids that it‘s alright to worry but to seek help from others and how to cope with worrying. ELS Strategies are 8 and 14 . UDL 3.3 #ucflae3414sp21

DrSpalding Love the book. Missing critical content. 3y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Incredibly well done book on an emotion both children and adults struggle with. A picture book where the pictures truly tell the story and conjure up the emotion. Would have loved to share more pics but didn‘t want to give away the ending. Highly recommend.

This book is F and it's about a girl named Ruby and she has a worry. She sees this worry as a yellow circle that follows her around. She becomes more worried about having it around and the worry becomes bigger. Ruby learns how to overcome her worry and she talks to a friend about how she is feeling. Shocking enough the worry begins to fade away. This is a great lesson for students to learn.

LizzettM Teach think, pair and share strategies in a cooperative partner reading, EL strategy 10 will allow students to work together and build on what they know. The UDL principle (6.1) guide appropriate goal setting just like Ruby learned within the book.

An adorable and reassuring story about a little girl Ruby who has a worry that just won‘t leave her alone. This book would be such a good idea as an RA to teach young children what to do when you have a worry and encourages students to talk about their feelings.

RaivionneC This book aligns very well with UDL guidelines of facilitating personal coping skills, and strategies and develop self-assessment and reflection (9.2-9.3) 4y
RaivionneC This a link that pairs perfectly for teachers who need help and tips and activities on how this book can promote social, personal, and emotional development in their classrooms. https://clpe.org.uk/sites/default/files/Ruby%27s%20Worry%20by%20Tom%20Percival%2... (edited) 4y
RaivionneC An ESOL strategy aligning with this book would be encouraging self-talk and teaching questioning for clarification. (edited) 4y
DrSpalding A couple of students read this book! I previously added it to my stack. Your universal design principles work well with the theme of this text. 4y

Finished these two beauties earlier today as part of my Staff Day prep 😊

#currentlyreading and taking notes for The Lost Girl by Anne Ursu.

Outside my window, it is 🌨❄🌨❄🌨

Yup... you read that correctly. Snowing.

Cinfhen What??? Outside my window it‘s boiling 🥵 5y
Librariana @Cinfhen - Washington state. Inland northwest. Idaho neighbor 😁 5y
Librariana @Cinfhen - our power went out much earlier today and we were very grateful to have it quickly restored. But we've had a snow and rain mix pretty much the whole day. As of around 7pm this evening, it was sticking slightly, but we don't think it'll hang out for long. 5y
Cinfhen That‘s crazy!! It‘s too early for snow even for Washington state!! Glad you‘re ok and with power 5y
